Tiny Nonsense

Purportedly

So it seems I couldn’t stop with just the hat, I needed some cuffs too.  They’re called Purportedly, they’re out now, and you can them get 10% off with the code SUPPOSED (but read on, because if you want the matching hat, you can do something cooler). Yup, that lovely netting has me trapped...I couldn't help but do a bit more.  It really is that perfect mix of easy to do and hideously good looking once it's done (really, do your best to have new or non-knitters around when you do the magic row...they'll think you're a wizard).  I suspect you'll find it [...]

The slipper returns

Remember the slipper?  The pretty little blue slipper? With the leafy bits and the glee? Yeah, well it was time for the first of the pair to stop languishing in solitude in the WIP bin. The second one is well underway and should be joining its mate here in just a little bit. And then shortly after that, the pair of them should be tromping off to a convenient wood pile or rock pile or tree stump or whatever else I can find around here and press into service as a photo backdrop! General preemptive question round up session.  The [...]

Let’s do it again

Probably best if I go ahead and give it a mate, yeah?  I'll be chilly and cranky come fall if I don't. Looks like this should be ready to go come Tuesday if you share my unreasonable fondness for it and want some of your own. And it will work the same way as the last set, you'll get a discount on the set if you get them both (and it's fine if you got the hat earlier, ravelry is awesome and makes that all work smoothly).   [pextestim pex_attr_set="looking-for-this-pattern" pex_attr_autoplay="false"][/pextestim]

Try it on

So...I know I've told you this before.  But it was a long time ago, and some of you are new.  So I'll do it again.  Put your thumb stitches on scrap yarn (instead of an extra needle) when you're making mitts. Why?  Well because it's bendier.  When you try your mitt on, you'll get a much better sense of how it fits. And you should totally be trying your mitt on.  It's the only way to know how tall to make the mitt before you divide for the thumb (having that too short is super uncomfortable).  It's absolutely worth doing, [...]

Thumbs

So I'm doing something similar with the thumbs again (like on Unwavering).  You make extra stitches to make room for the thumb, but instead of using the stitches you made, you grab the ones next to it. This is surprisingly hard to describe.  It would be ever so much easier if I could just sort point and wave.  For now, we'll press one of our trust hand forms into service. It looks awfully pretty.  It makes the hand feel all lovely and organic and swoopy. Plus I keep wanting to experiment with it, which is always a good sign!

Not done yet

Right...so I should probably be done with this by now...I mean I did do a whole hat's worth of it.  But somehow no. Somehow I find myself wanting just a little more. The trickiest bit was picking the color.  I don't feel like using the whole rainbow is super practical on the cuffs (even I do not want to deal with that many ends on that small a space... So I went with pink.  I could say something about how it's high contrast and extra eye catching and make soemthing up. But the truth is my winter puffy coat is [...]

Goodies

I went to Fiber Frolic earlier this month, and then completely and utterly failed to show you the goodies I got! In my defense, I did show them off on instagram stories (I'm starting to play with that, so if you ever felt a burning desire to hear me natter on in real time, that could make all your dreams come true). But not showing it here too is borderline criminal. Let's see if we can fix it, yeah? Three special friends followed me home.  The first is June Pryce Fiber Arts' Coventry DK in Speckled Soul Searching. The second [...]

Trim

Folks, we need to talk about pompom trimming.  This isn't actually a sentence I ever thought I'd say, but apparently my life is odd.  I heard from so may folks saying some variation of 'ack, your pompoms are perfect, mine never look like that.'  And I'm here to tell you it's all in the trimming.  No one's pompoms look perfect right off the maker. Want proof?  Check this out.  That's the two I made for this hat straight off the form. Hot mess, right?  And that's totally normal.  They always look like that.  You just need to trim them down.  [...]

Ostensibly (plus giveaway)

I'm a grown up. I am. I have the paperwork to prove it. But somehow...somehow my reaction to this hat makes me question just how much of an adult I really am.  It's called Ostensibly, and you can get it on ravelry for 10% off with the code ALLEGED. I can't decide if it's the rainbow colors, or the pompom (or the other pompom, or the other other pompom), or the blatant refusal to weave in my ends, but this one feels like about the farthest thing from being grown up I can imagine. And I'm not even a little [...]
