Goodies
I went to Fiber Frolic earlier this month, and then completely and utterly failed to show you the goodies I got! In my defense, I did show them off on instagram stories (I'm starting to play with that, so if you ever felt a burning desire to hear me natter on in real time, that could make all your dreams come true). But not showing it here too is borderline criminal. Let's see if we can fix it, yeah? Three special friends followed me home. The first is June Pryce Fiber Arts' Coventry DK in Speckled Soul Searching. The second [...]
Trim
Folks, we need to talk about pompom trimming. This isn't actually a sentence I ever thought I'd say, but apparently my life is odd. I heard from so may folks saying some variation of 'ack, your pompoms are perfect, mine never look like that.' And I'm here to tell you it's all in the trimming. No one's pompoms look perfect right off the maker. Want proof? Check this out. That's the two I made for this hat straight off the form. Hot mess, right? And that's totally normal. They always look like that. You just need to trim them down. [...]
Ostensibly (plus giveaway)
I'm a grown up. I am. I have the paperwork to prove it. But somehow...somehow my reaction to this hat makes me question just how much of an adult I really am. It's called Ostensibly, and you can get it on ravelry for 10% off with the code ALLEGED. I can't decide if it's the rainbow colors, or the pompom (or the other pompom, or the other other pompom), or the blatant refusal to weave in my ends, but this one feels like about the farthest thing from being grown up I can imagine. And I'm not even a little [...]
Might be excessive
Ok...so we established that I firmly believe one rainbow pompom was a fine thing to do. But you see...there was some of the gray speckled yarn leftover too. And I didn't want it to feel left out. You wouldn't want that, would you? I mean that would just be heartless. So yeah, specked pompom too. Now I have to decide which I like better!
You knew it was coming
So I mean really...can you blame me? Because I don't think I can be asked to resist the idea of a pompom out of this. Possibly you can. You may also be able to resist that extra piece of pizza, staying up late on school nights, and yet another bottle of nail polish. But I can't. And I sort of hope that never changes. As far as indulgences go, these are pretty minor. And nothing this cheerful can be anything other than a force for good in the world! One more time, for anyone wandering by late to the party, [...]
Ends…so many ends
So when the inside of your project looks like this... There's going to be a point where you're confronted with these... And you have a little breakdown. But then? Then you remember that you were once an eight year old girl, and you won't be daunted by a mess of strings. So you do this. Now is it the most practical thing? No. Should you just weave in your ends like a grown up? Probably. But I'm doing this (then tacking it down to the inside of the hat to hide the bundle of ends). Because it's my hat and [...]
And the winner is…
Turns out the yellow won. It was a close race (I actually tried both because I was feeling that indecisive). On the hat, I liked the yellow best. And now...now it's more or less done! Well...except for dealing with the insides. And um, maybe making a pompom. Because apparently that's what I do now...hats and pompoms. It's a good life! Let’s have some more of that, shall we?
While I was distracting you with the fetching orange striped mitts, the hat decided to get bigger. Quite a bit bigger actually... So big that I may only have room for five colors (the set comes with six, and I'd hoped to have room for them all, but that may not quite work out). I'm torn between the pale green, and the yellow. The green feels a little cooler, somehow more sedate. And the yellow more cheerful. I think either is probably actually fine...but somehow that makes the choice all the harder.
Unwavering
So it seems I couldn't stop with just the hat, I needed some cuffs too. They're called Unwavering, they're out now, and you can them get 10% off with the code STEADFAST (but read on, because if you want the matching hat, you can do something cooler). I like this more than any reasonable person should. It's not hard...it's not fancy...it shouldn't be this amusing. And yet somehow, it is. On the hat I had the lovely orange stripe go swirling off on a little jaunt. Here I kept the stripe steady and instead let the thumb gussets do all [...]
