Cohesive
So you know how sometimes I say something like 'this project has big stretches of reverse stockinette so you may want to consider a more subdued yarn than you might otherwise use'? Like with the top of the foot on Cataphyll or the background on Enchase or the heel and background on Greenhorn? Yeah well let's look at why. Take a look at this and notice the difference between the stockinette side (that's the bit that's all knits...the bottom in this picture) and the reverse stockinette side (that's the bit that's all purls...the top in this picture). Trace one of [...]
Mellow
Ribbing done! And stockinette underway. Now let's be frank...the stockinette part will be the entire rest of the hat. That means this is going to just get taller and taller and taller until it gets tall enough (or I give up and quit...that's totally an option too). Luckily, the yarn provides a heck of a distraction! Collusion (plus giveaway)
It all started so simply. I wanted to play with two yarns but not to do the hard parts of colorwork (using two yarns in the same row scares me every time). And I wanted to play with slipped stitches. Before I knew it, there were three new hats in the world! The third, Collusion, is out today. It continues the theme started with Entrapment and Misprision. You only ever use one yarn per row, and you make all the fancy bits happen by slipping stitches. It really is sort of amazing what you do within those constraints! And there's [...]
Good Mail (once again!)
So when I told you the yarn for Curls 3 was going to be awesome, I really did mean it! I don't think I've ever assembled quite such a colorful bunch, but I'm totally loving it! Here we've got Tibetan Dream by Bijou Spun in Lilac Ombre (this is the yarn I showed you when we talked about how to get the kinks out of caked yarn...take a look at this and compare it to the pictures in that post to see what a difference it makes). And this is Silky Victoraia by Blue Moon Fiber Arts in Sugar Plum [...]
Take two
So you remember the folded hat from a few weeks ago? Uh huh. Well there's going to be a second version (I want to fine tune a few details and show a second way to put it together). And that means more yarn (it's the DK base from The Lemonade Shop in Stormy Day). And more ribbing. Someone come by and sneak in a row or two while I take a quick nap, ok? Swatches
Oh my goodness how have I not shown you guys this... So you know how I've been showing you all sorts of yarn for Curls 3? Yeah...well that doesn't just sit around being yarn, it gets turned into swatches. Lots and lots and lots of swatches! That's the Squish DK by Spun Right Round in Frost (and that's a super reversible stitch, which is always lovely for curls). And then how about a bit of Magnificent DK from Knit Circus in Brass and Steam (and yes, that is a circular needle...what is the world coming to!). And last but not [...]
Revivify (plus giveaway)
So I know your life is perfectly in order. You never need a plumber, or an electrician, or whoever it is you call to do something about that funny spot on the garage roof. And I bet you have healthy dinners every night and your laundry is all put away and your yard looks just great right now. But I? I sometimes have weeks where life gets the better of me...and when I have one of those weeks, I need my knitting to be simple. That usually means I find myself knitting little flared cuffs. They're quick, they're easy, I [...]
Good Mail (really good!)
Don't worry...there totally are more yarns for Curls 3...I've just been so busy swatching them that I've been remiss in showing them off to you. Let's fix that! This set is Miss Babs' Sojurn base in their German Waterways colorway. It's made of angel wings and clouds and unicorn eyelashes as far as I can tell (or, possibly the 65% cashmere, 30% silk they list on the tag...but I think unicorn eyelashes explains the softness better). And yes, yes it is an indulgent yarn...but really you deserve a little indulgence. I know you do. And this is a lovely combo [...]
Distractions
So you know I love flared cuffs. Sort of a lot. I tried to count, and it looks like there are at least four as individual patterns and some fairly alarming number in various books (I officially have enough patterns in enough places that it's kind of hard to sort them all!). And so it should be no surprise that I have another pair fresh off the needles. These really are a tiny, quick project (I knit each one in a few hours while trying to distract myself from the horrible and expensive things a pipe in my basement was [...]
