Tidy
The tidy socks of tidiness continue to be unreasonably satisfying. They've reached that 'looks properly like a sock' stage of things, which is always rather motivational. Oh and the other side will do something like this. Of course now I just have to motivate myself to put in the rows until things get interesting again at the toes, which is never my strong suit. Someone send bribes.
Latterly (plus giveaway)
Half the trick to knitting is balance (balance knits with purls to keep things from curling, balance cables with plain stitches to keep things from squinching up too tight, balance increases with decreases to keep things from changing size). Latterly are a perfect balance between lace (fairly entertaining lace at that) and lovely, quiet ribbing. I'm delighted to have them back out. I love balancing lace with ribbing. It works especially well here as this lace has you changing your stitch count from row to row. If you have too much of that all on the same row, your sock [...]
More Tricks
Somehow the nifty little magic trick swatch has gone and turned itself into nifty (if rather larger) magic trick socks. Or at least into the start of socks. Funny how that happens! Yarn is some Dirty Water Dye Works' Marie that I got on our trip back in 2013. it is going to make excellent socks. Now if one of you would just come bang out a few more inches for me while I go take a nap?
Tiny Magic Tricks
So we all know knitting is already magic. You've got sticks. You've got string. Then you waggle your hands around and you have fabric. But some knitting is extra magical. Sometimes what looks like calm, quiet, stately ribbing on one side? Looks like a knitting dance party on the other side! And I mean I get how it works. I did it. But I'm still endlessly amused. Tell me I'm not alone...
Still Fun
The happy yarn barrage (goodies for next year's book) continues unabated. Today's lovelies are from Malabrigo. We've got some Arroyo in Reflecting Pool. And some Twist in Sealing Wax. And yes, for those playing along at home, that is rather thick, and it might not be what you'd expect for socks...that's because it's turning into slippers. Oh and wow are they going to be nice!
Haul
So last time I showed off (just a bit) of the pretty from the trip to Maine. But I know you guys are here more for yarn than for general travel festivities. And don't worry, there was yarn. No really I checked. There was. First up, a bit of Malabrigo. And no, it's not local to Maine, but I strongly prefer to buy Malabrigo in person, and these four were too lovely to pass up! And when in Maine, you're pretty much contractually obligated to get a bit of Seven Sisters Arts. That contract? It totally covers String Theory too. [...]
Influence
So a little while ago, a friend said something along the lines of 'have you seen this yarn?' I allowed as how I had not and took a look. It was indeed lovely. Then I happened to notice that the yarn company happened to be vending at the Maine Fiber Frolic and asked, in a causal sort of way, why I hadn't had the foresight to arrange to be in Maine that weekend. A few minutes later, it was brought to my attention that air fare was shockingly reasonable. As was lodging. A few hours later, the trip was booked. [...]
Tacit (plus giveaway)
I know quite a few of you have been eagerly awaiting these. So, for anyone in a tearing hurry, let me just go ahead and say Tacit are out. You can grab them and cast on right now. But do swing back by when you have a moment, as I've got yarn to give away down below! So I know lots of folks watched this one come together (someone linked to one of the early posts about them on pinterest and it sort of blew up, which is totally nifty). And the thing I kept getting asked over and over [...]
Zipping
This really has more or less just fallen off the needles. It was faster than it has any right to be (even if it is only a tiny bit of knitting). The first one has now had a proper blocking and had its ends all tidily tucked away. Number two is off the needles (and here is shamelessly showing off its insides...which really I think are rather nifty) and waiting for its turn to be blocked. And speaking of blocking, I've found the easiest way to do these is actually over the top of a one liter water bottle. Depending [...]
