Continued Improvement
The Blue Thing of Blueness continues to amuse me (and to be very very blue). The edges are doing this marvelously structured flip. And the body of it is behaving perfectly (by which I mean 'doing what I wanted it to do, and looking good while doing it'). As predicted, I think I'll be done with it any second now. At which point, I'll take some photos that show it off a bit better (I get that it's in that crumpled stage where its charms may be lost on anyone not actually petting it). This Calls for a Plan
Somehow 'making an editorial calendar' sounds terrifying. Let's just call it 'playing with markers and colored paper,' shall we? But whatever you call it, it's shaping up to be a good year, and I'm so glad you're along for the ride!
Vivid
So the most recent hat and mitts are done (and I'm in the middle of working on the pattern, don't worry). And the devious plan for the unreasonably interesting swatches has gotten a green light from the dyer, but we have to wait just a bit for all the lovely yarn to happen. Which leaves me needing something on my needles to fill the time between. Penchant
I believe I promised you a new hat pattern before the winter was over. And since we've just now gotten our first properly cold days and bits of snow, this seems like the perfect time to bring these out. Penchant is now available on ravelry! And yes, there are totally two versions of the hat. The whole time I was working the first one I kept thinking 'you know, if you shifted the decreases over just a tiny bit, you'd get a totally different look.' So, I did. Contrast
With the cuffs finished, my needles were empty (cough, mostly, cough), and I found myself in need of a project. I'd had an idea bubbling away in the back of my mind for a while now, and this seemed like the perfect time to play with it. It required two yarns though, so I knew there would be a fair amount of swatching. So first came this. Oh, then this. Um, and then a little of this. And none of those are quite right. Zigzag
These are done, blocked, and ready to join the hat for their photo shoot. Said photo shoot should happen tomorrow, assuming the weather and my determination to get things done hold out. I'm taken with them, really I am. I was worried they (and really the hat that goes with them) would end up being too simple, but I think they're the good kind of simple. The satisfying sort, not the boring sort.
Sets
I'm really bad at just making a hat or just making cuffs or just making a cowl. I like it better when things come in sets. I'll make an exception for when I have just a tiny bit of yarn and am doing a project to use that little bit up. But if I have a whole lovely big pile of yarn, I like sets. Which is why it should surprise no one that the leftover yarn from the most recent hat leapt onto the needles and did something like this. And very shortly later, it did something like this. [...]

Boom
So the hat looked more or less like this a little while ago. Then came a quick little fit of knitting, and all of a sudden it looked like this. It's still due for a bit of a block, just to even things out and fluff it up a bit, but I'm rather taken with it. I wanted the top to do something very specific (sort of gathered, not slouchy at all, but with just a bit of extra volume up there), and it totally did what I had in mind.
