Tiny Nonsense

And Done

Thumbs all tidy and done! Done on the second try I might add.  I very cleverly knit them on one-size-too-small needles the first time through (and only recognized it after I'd bound off thank you very much).  But a quick fit of swearing and ripping took care of it and now both are done.  And someday it may be cold enough to wear them!

Beginnings

Somehow, even after spending large chunks of Saturday and Sunday taking photos for Curls 2, I still wasn't quite done playing with yarn.  So on Sunday evening, this happened. It's going to be a hat for The Boy, and it's made with one of the yarns I grabbed when we were up in Maine earlier this year.  It's my first try at a fingering weight hat (normally I go thicker), and I'm a little worried I'll get bored somewhere in the middle and fall down and die.  But it's a fast stitch pattern (slipped stitches always are) and knit at [...]

Prepped

This weekend is the photoshoot for Curls 2.  This is ridiculously exciting, as I think all this gray is going to be amazingly fun to take photos of.  I've been doing that thing where I scurry around making sure I have everything I need for days now.  Of course I need all the curls themselves. I store them on a dress form to keep them from getting wrinkled after they are blocked.  These are on Alethea's companion, Verity.  You've not been properly introduced yet, but I'm sure we'll fix that at some point.  Both ladies are coming with us for [...]

Slouch

The second mitt is done (well, they need thumbs, but done enough to try on and admire). I'm loving how slouchy they are.  I made them a bit bigger than I normally would for a cuff (no negative ease, pretty much exactly my wrist circumference), and between that and the big, deep cable they are delightfully slouchy.  I mean you could keep them tugged out and straight, but left to their own devices, they will crumple up perfectly. I think it goes beautifully with the hat, which is quite slouchy too.  Actually, I think I owe you a picture of [...]

Oh this needs to happen

So it's about time I show you something I've knit.  Except that I don't actually have anything I've knit to show, so I'll have to do something much much better and show you something Katie (who knits an astonishing number of the knitted things you see in my pattern photos) knit instead. These are the reincarnation of the gray socks I ripped out back in October.  I wrote up the pattern, paired it up with some yarn (and oh if this isn't the perfect thing to do with a solid yarn I don't know what is) and now I have [...]

Assortment

So, did I mention all the gray curls are done?  Done and safely home with me and blocked? Sounds like it might just be time for a photo shoot! Now normally I'd be horribly nervous about having a photoshoot in Cleveland in December (as they generally happen outdoors, and outdoors has been known to be unpleasant around here that time of year), but this year our December weekends are apparently going to be down right balmy.  So all we need to do now is figure out the best place to go for brunch after (that being how we bribe ourselves [...]

Treasure Hunt

Jaala, lovely mastermind behind KnitCircus yarns, is having a little treasure hunt this weekend and was kind enough to let me come be a part of it.  All the details are over here, but the gist is that I and a bunch of other indie businesses have hidden special pictures somewhere on our websites.  They'll be up for December 5 and 6, and if you can find them all, you just might win some goodies! So swing by the info post over on Jaala's site for all the details (like how to enter and what sort of picture you're looking [...]

Snuggle

Excuse me, I'll just be over here curled up in this. I'm going to be blocking it tomorrow, at which point it will become all open and structured and tidy and formal.  But wow if there isn't something special about it in its fresh-off-the-needles state. The yarn totally helps with that (it's Maia by SpaceCadet, and you should probably go get some now before I snag it all).  If the sun ever comes out again it will look all glowy and bright, but for now it's a lovely moody thing and I adore it even more this way!

Progress

So the goal was to make progress on the mitts, and that totally happened.  The first one is more or less done, and the second one is underway. I decided to hold off on the thumb of the first one until I see just how close of a squeak the yarn is going to be.  There should be just enough, but if I need to make the thumb a row or two shorter, I'd rather know from the beginning that have to unweave my end and rip back. So for now the thumb looks like this, and the second mitt [...]
