More Indiscretion
When last I left you, it was Friday morning. I'd visited A Verb for Keeping Warm the night before and just sort of casually mentioned that I was about to head out to another yarn shop later that morning. The second yarn shop was ImagiKnit, and it was a delight. Now, first things first, they had a wee stack of Curls sitting out on the table. And I know it's horribly tacky to admit it, but I confess that does always make me awfully happy to see that in a yarn shop. I secretly suspect anyone else who writes books [...]
Indiscretion
You'll have to forgive me. I had all these grand plans. While I was away I was going to take advantage of the pretty scenery to take oodles of sock pictures (seriously, I packed along socks in my carry on for maximum sock safety). I was going to stumble across charming fiber animals (when I had my camera handy). I was going to encounter nifty knitting-related stuff (also with camera to hand) in unexpected contexts and document it for you all. But I haven't. Instead I've spent a fairly astonishing amount of time finding awesome restaurants, reading, just possibly napping, [...]
Point
I distinctly remember, back when I was a new knitter, wondering why on earth people had so many knitting needles. I could understand having different sizes. Though I secretly suspected that you could probably make size 2 act like size 1 if you just pulled extra tight or like size 3 if you just kept your yarn a bit loose...I mean how much difference could a half a millimeter really make? (Hint, new knitters, if you're reading this, the answer is 'a lot.' Half a millimeter makes a lot of difference. Save yourself the headache and be smarter than I [...]
Stack
Remember back in March when I tossed the stash, found some favorite yarns that were just itching to be knit into some of my early sock patterns, and sent them off to marvelous sample knitters so I could take new pictures and bring the patterns back out? Well, it was totally a good move. Sybaritic has already come back out (as have quite a few of her fellows), and now I've got a whole new stack of socks just waiting for photos! That's Scatterling, Gramercy, and Anemochory (for those of you paying alarmingly close attention at home, no, Anemochory wasn't [...]
Crumple
So I like scarves. Not so much knitted scarves (shocking I know), but really really big, really really thin cashmere scarves. The sort that are way longer than you are tall, wide enough to make a respectable lap blanket, and thin enough to read a newspaper through. I have a few of these, and I find them ridiculously handy (as always, amazon links are affiliate links). The only thing is, after I wear them a few times, they start to look a bit, um, disheveled. They have a few creases here and there and maybe even a bit of a [...]
Truckle
Oh hey, remember these? I totally do! Or, more specifically, I remember the terrible terrible plague I had while I knit them. Their working title when I was knitting them was zombie socks (as I was at least half dead as I made them). But truckle (which means to yield out of weakness) seemed a much more fitting official title! They're mostly plain stockinette. There's just one pretty little decorated panel down the outside of the ankle (and even that is an easy-to-memorize pattern) to keep you entertained. But the combination totally works and results in a sock that's easy to [...]

Knit Wear Love (review and giveaway)
More TNNA goodies to share, this time it's the delightful Knit Wear Love: Foolproof Instructions for Knitting your Best-Fitting Sweaters Ever in the Styles you Love to Wear from Amy Herzog. You know how I always say I'll never knit a sweater? Now part of that is because of my whole short attention span / that's an awful lot of fabric issue. But part of it is also because I've been scared I'd make one and not love it when it was done. I'm absolutely a product knitter. If I'm knitting something, it's because I want the finished piece. Can [...]
Terms
Sock the second continues his slow but inevitable march toward the sock basket. We're nearing my favorite milestone of sock creation, which in my head is called 'Well and Truly Socklike.' That's the point where I feel that if I hold the thing up, even a non-knitter should be able to tell exactly what it is. I feel like this point comes some time shortly after the gusset decreases happen (because really, what exactly could it be other than a sock at that point?). Though if the questions I've gotten from non-knitters are any indication, this isn't actually as clear [...]
