Tiny Nonsense

The Sock You Cannot See

I'm working on some socks for The Boy (compensation for his efforts in the giant book shipping extravaganza that he's about to participate in).  I'm using a lovely brown yarn with subtle hints of green and red.  It is lovely, and in the right light you can see all the glorious tints and shades it has to offer.  In the wrong light, you cannot.  It's Cleveland, it's December.  The right light is hard to come by.  This picture does not do it justice at all. But it's knitting.  I've been skimping on the knitting of late, and for the love [...]

Shipping Update

So we're in one of those good news/bad news spots. The good news is that I've shipped hundreds and hundreds of books, and lots of folks have started to receive them (and I've even spotted a few finished curls popping up on ravelry).  That is so much fun to see! Now for the bad news.  Remember back in November, just before the preorder, when I said "A pile of books are on their way to me via UPS and are due to arrive early next week.  The rest of them are on a boat and are due to arrive early [...]

Oh hey, knitting…

So it's been a while, but some of you may remember sometimes I do this thing where I use two sticks to tie long pieces of string in fancy knots.  Then I take pictures of the knots and talk about them on the internet.  Which I know sounds odd, but it's been a while since I've had time to do it (there was this book thing...it was time consuming), and I find I sort of miss it.  So, how about a picture of some fancy knots. That's the reknit of my old Petiole pattern.  The original pattern had the hat [...]

Nifty

I wasn't going to post today.  I was going to stuff envelopes and then rest (doctor's orders...apparently this work all day, get no sleep, be too busy to eat thing I've been rocking for a week or two isn't actually a good long term plan, and I've been sternly told go chill out for a few days).  But then I happened to see this on amazon this morning, and couldn't stop myself. Now of course that will change over time (as far as I can tell, it's updated hourly, so it could change at any moment).  But today, for at [...]

Going Postal (the old-fashioned way)

Hey stranger, I missed you!  Writing about all the book projects (and reading all your lovely comments) has been great fun, but I've missed just chatting with you.  I like telling you guys what's going on around here. Though to be frank, what's been going on so far this week is probably less than fascinating blog fodder.  I've been putting books in envelopes.  I've been putting lots of books in envelopes and then putting them out for the postman.  That's pretty much all I've been doing.  The first batch went out Saturday (I figured no one would mind if they [...]

Chlorochrous & Shibui

I'm using the Curls preorder to introduce the patterns and yarns from the book. I'll be featuring a new pair each day. Most of the yarn companies have donated lovely prizes, so come back every day to see what's new!  Chlorochrous in Staccato by Shibui  There are days (I decline to say how many), when I need just a little extra help to get through the day -- some sort of extra armor to keep me safe from the world (or just possibly to keep the world safe from me).  It has not escaped my notice that you can wear [...]

Fulvous & The Plucky Knitter

I'm using the Curls preorder to introduce the patterns and yarns from the book. I'll be featuring a new pair each day. Most of the yarn companies have donated lovely prizes, so come back every day to see what's new!  Fulvous in Bello Worsted by The Plucky Knitter  I've already professed my love for the two extremes of the cable spectrum.  The last project satisfied my need for the big meaty cables, this one takes care of my undying fondness for teeny tiny cables.  Just to make things even more interesting, there's a bit of dropped stitch action going on, [...]

Icterine & Cephalopod Yarns

I'm using the Curls preorder to introduce the patterns and yarns from the book. I'll be featuring a new pair each day. Most of the yarn companies have donated lovely prizes, so come back every day to see what's new!  Icterine in Bugga by Cephalopod Yarns  There is something to be said for extremes.  When it comes to cables, I tend to embrace the far ends of the spectrum.  I find myself madly in love with both itty bitty one-by-one cables and with big swoopy cables that involve so many stitches that things crumple up in the middle and make [...]

Filemot & Spud & Chloë (giveaway)

I'm using the Curls preorder to introduce the patterns and yarns from the book. I'll be featuring a new pair each day. Most of the yarn companies have donated lovely prizes, so come back every day to see what's new!  Filemot in Fine by Spud & Chloë  There is a place in this world for auto pilot knitting.  The stuff you can knit in the dark at the movie theater, or over a beer in the dimly lit bar, or while watching some deeply engrossing tv show.  Projects like that are lovely, and there are several of them in this [...]
