Tiny Nonsense

Neeeeext!

Those lovely blue cabled socks?  The ones you kept asking about?  They'll be going up for sale on Tuesday.  This is just a heads up so you can go pick yarn and make plans (it's written for either 7, 8, or 9 stitches per inch so you'll be able to use whatever thickness speaks to you, I've used Frog Tree's Pediboo Sport Tonal and I loved it). And just as a reminder, folks on the mailing list will get a notification when it goes up and (usually) also get a coupon or some other special goody when new patterns come [...]

A Good Start

Did I mention I'm deep in the middle of the next book (the one that should be out in early fall 2015)?  I'm at that stage where all the patterns are written and most of the projects back with me.  The sock part of the projects look a little something like this. If you've been paying alarmingly close attention for the last little while, you'll notice that those are six of the seven yarns shown here (the seventh is underway).  Now that they're here and blocked and stacked up in a nice neat little pile, I'm even more convinced than [...]

One Sock Two Sock

So, that's two finished socks.  Alas (and I didn't realize this till I took them both outside in the daylight), they seem to be two slightly different colored finished socks. I'm going to try very hard to tell myself I don't care (I mean really, if I didn't notice while I was knitting, it's not likely to be a big deal).  Failing that, I'm going to try very hard to tell myself that The Boy (the intended recipient of said socks) doesn't care.  Next up on my denial plan is washing them a few times to see if the difference [...]

Rescue Mission

While I did not buy any yarn at Rhinebeck, I did get myself two little treats.  One was the blanket I told you about back in October (and which I continue to adore).  The other was a purse from Julia Hilbrandt.  I love it, it is just the right size and totally my style.  It's gotten tons of compliments, and it goes with more or less everything I own.  It's perfect, and it's driving me mad. The bag is made of industrial felt with leather handles.  After about a two weeks of carrying it, it started to get a few [...]

Winding

Here's hoping you find all of your favorite knitting treats under the tree or in your stocking! Image from the Library of Congress' website (and it looks like it's old enough that it's fine to use here).

Industrious

This is what things have looked like around for the last little while. That's what it looks like when you set out more than 500 envelopes for the postman in one day (don't worry, I told them they were coming, and I helped load the truck).  Do that for a few days, and all of a sudden all of the books are mailed. Everything should be on the way, and we should be back to the normal shipping schedule (things going out within one or two business days of your order).  You guys are awesome for being so excited about [...]

Shades

I've wanted to do an all gray book for, um, forever.  I just kept telling myself no.  No, no one will like it.  No, people will think it's boring.  No, all the projects will look the same.  No, it will be hard to photograph. You know what?  I'm doing an all gray book, and it's going to be amazing. The yarns have started to come in (this is seven of the eventual fourteen) and there's not a boring one in the bunch.  They don't all look the same.  I love taking pictures of gray yarns (maybe not on the day after [...]

Additions

The Chez Violence Home for Wayward Knitting Props is adding a wing.  Or maybe it's just a room?  However we're justifying it, I am now the proud owner of a Nifty Old Trunk. Strange as it sounds, I actually need it as a photo prop for Book the Next (yes, yes I really do...it's totally a legitimate and justifiable business purchase and in no way a shameless indulgence). Some time, when I have a bit of free time, I really must see what I can find out about our friend E. L. Bergan.  The tag says he or she sailed [...]

43 and a Toe

Sock the first is done (that's him, smugly pleased with his blocked state, there in the background).  Sock the second has a leg, a heel, and even a gusset.  He only needs 43 rows and a toe to be finished (yes, yes I do count rows and keep an obsessive mental tally of how much is done versus how much remains...it's totally a valid lifestyle choice). With any luck, the finishing of the socks will coincide with the holidays.  That will mean The Boy will actually be home during daylight, and I can get some lovely modeled shots and get [...]
