Tiny Nonsense

Ready to Absorb the Knowledge

I had the very best of intentions.  Really I did.  I had amassed all the needed materials.  I had my books and pens and pencils.  I had the much revered  post it note flags and the handy notebook.  I even had a bracing cup of hot, fresh tea.  I was all set up at the dining room table so I couldn't drift off to sleep in an overly-comfy chair.  I was ready to go. But you see, I also had a Levon, and he had rather different ideas for my afternoon.  He made it quite clear that he was much [...]

Fiendish

The bead thing seems to be working out.  Or rather, I seem to be able to apply beads to loops of string in a more or less consistent manner.  And, working on the idea that something done consistently tends to eventually look intentional and maybe even appealing, I'm getting a pleasantly orderly result. I know it looks a bit scruffy now.  I promise it will look better later.  I've still got to figure out if it's going to be a bracelet or a necklace, and there's a fair bit of fiddling with it yet to be done, but I'm liking [...]

Unreasonably Tidy

So I may have mentioned that I have a small tendency to be obsessively obnoxiously a tiny bit organized.  I really can't help it.  If I don't keep things tidy I end up sitting in the corner rocking slowly back and forth and muttering about label makers and alphabetizing and filing systems.  It's better to just let me set things up however I want. If you're not also wired this way, you won't be able to understand my glee when I stumbled upon these little plastic containers in the dollar section of Target.  I bought them all.  I'm going back [...]

Helpful…or Overkill

Alright folks, polling the collective again.  Say you were looking at a knitting pattern (so out of character I know), would you rather see: Shown in: So-Soft DK by Handwerks in the color Lemongrass, size medium. Or do you prefer the rather wordier: Shown in: So-Soft DK by Handwerks in the color Lemongrass. Shown in size medium, which used about 130 yards. One (230 yard) skein will likely make any of the listed sizes if the mitt doesn't reach beyond the forearm. This is for patterns for the book (ie not a stand alone downloadable pattern) if that matters.

Siren Song

So I've been led astray.  The siren song and subtle sparkle of some wee glass baubles have sidetracked me. While we were out in Oregon and Washington we saw lots of glass fishing floats.  Not on the beach (because you know I would have snatched those up half a heartbeat), but in stores.  I'm hesitant to buy them in stores.  They're pretty and all, but the ones in the stores somehow don't have the same sort of backstory as one you found on the beach would have.  I will just have to keep looking and hope I find one some [...]

Stacks

Anyone want to wager a guess as to how may outraged emails I'll get for hastening the downfall of our nation's youth or advocating scandalous behavior? Part of the Stacks series.  And as always, you can click to see a bigger picture if you'd like.

Book Yarn, Part VIII

It's been an awesome day at Chez Violence.  As of close of business today, I have sixteen (out of an eventual twenty) of the projects for Book the Second here and blocked and petted and cooed over and tucked away safe out of reach of mischievous kittens.  I know it is unbecomingly immodest, but if you got me alone in a quiet corner, I might just confess to being really really pleased with all of these projects. On the left is Schaefer Yarn Company in Chris in the color Pomegranate.  This is a soft, lofty, 80/20 merino nylon yarn.  It's [...]

Book Yarn, Part VII

You thought I'd forgotten, didn't you.  I didn't, and there are more than six sets of yarns in the book.  I've just been a wee bit busy.  But I'm sneaking back in to add in the next of the book yarns.  There are three more after this one. On the left is Sanguine Gryphon in Traveller in the color Ireland.  It's a lovely, smooshy, 4-ply merino.  It's marvelously lofty (and so warm), and Sanguine Gryphon's colors are splendid as always. On the right is Sanguine Gryphon in Bugga in the color Oleander Nymph.  Bugga was one of the first merino, [...]

Lest You Fear I’d Forgotten

I did actually do some knitting on the trip.  Not much mind you.  Between the classes, the beach stomping, the rampaging up and down the coast I didn't have much time for knitting.  But I did finish up the first sock and start on the second.  And even more important, I totally took advantage of the biggest tree stump I've ever seen (easily twice as tall as I am and plenty big enough for you and three of your closest friends to climb inside) to snap a quick picture.  See?  All swoopy and soothing and sanity-protecting. They are likely to [...]
