Khotan and Gördes

As promised, I'd like to introduce the two socks for our February knit along.  The eastward sock for February is Khotan.  I love them.  I know it's probably tacky to say that about your own design, but, well, it's true.  They're just so crisp and orderly.  They appeal to the part of me that uses a ruler to make sure the books on my shelves are lined up just right.  Everything flows perfectly into the next bit and it just works.  I know, I'm not being modest.  But they really are a (not so) secret favorite. They are made in [...]

Knit Along

Several people, both here and on ravelry, have asked if we'll be doing a knit along for the book.  The answer is of course we are!  I thought I'd take a moment and outline some of the details here. As you may perhaps have noticed, there is a distinct geographical bent to this book.  We're taking shameless advantage of this for the knit along.  The Silk Road is really a vast east/west trade network covering several thousand miles.  People and goods traveled both ways (east to west and west to east) and we're going to structure the knit along in [...]

Silk Road Socks

Soooooo, this wasn't supposed to happen till tomorrow, but...well...um...it's out now! I'll come back and bore you to death with each of the individual socks over the next few days, but for now, you can go to ravelry to see information (and pictures) right now.  You can also go to Silk Road Socks to order a copy if you're so inclined.  The electronic versions should be delivered to you pretty much instantly, and the print versions will ship out just a bit later.

Crazed Chickens

Ya know the end of a big project, when all those little things you've been putting off because they 'will only take five minutes' all have to get done at once?   Yeah.  We're in that stage for the book. There are photo shoots, which means buying poster board and making that one pesky swatch I forgot about and getting a haircut and doing up yarn samples and spending some serious time with a lint roller.  There are final read throughs, which have totally justified my highlighter addiction (it's perfectly valid to need a key to remember which color of [...]

Y’all Rock!

You guys are seriously awesome.  Not only have you said encouraging things along the way, and then said complimentary things when I showed off the socks, but now you've actually bought the book.  I have to say it was more than a bit nerve wracking putting up the book site.  What if I put it up and no one looked?  What if I put it up and no one bought it.  It's the 'what if I throw a party and no one comes' anxiety except in a very public venue.  So thank you for coming to my party.  You made [...]

And Now…

Alright.  You've been patient.  Well, no.  You haven't.  You've been almost as impatient as I have.  But really -- that is even better than being patient, because that means you guys are excited too.  So now for the promised information. As of today, we are taking preorders for the book Silk Road Socks: 14 Patterns Inspired by Oriental Rugs! You can place orders over at Silk Road Socks.  The book will be available in traditional print form and also in a variety of electronic formats.  All the details are spelled out on the book's site (where you'll also find sneak [...]

Wink

These are the last two teasers.  No really, I promise. Friday (or maybe just possibly later this evening if I get all my ducks in a row and find myself unable to show restraint any longer) will see the unveiling of the book's website, details on when and how you'll be able to get the book, a new pattern for sale, and a special deal for the impatient eager among you.  With any luck at all, it will have been worth the wait. In the meantime, we've got two more lovely socks to preview.  First up is Salor.  He's wearing [...]

Flip Your Hair

Yes, more snippets. I know it's mean, but it's better than nothing, right? And I promise you a whole pair of socks (and actual useful information) come Friday.  Click any of these to see them in more detail So here we go.  Our next lovely model is Yomut.  He is wearing Knitting Notions' Classic Merino Sport in the color Dark Rose.  I initially bought this yarn for myself in a fit of indulgence at a fiber show.  As soon as I started playing with it I knew I that simply must use it for the book.  It's soft and luscious [...]

Flirt Shamelessly

So yesterday I showed you the 'behind the scenes' side of taking pictures.  Well, of me trying to take pictures.  I have a feeling the process will be a bit more orderly when we go off for the proper photo shoot with a real photographer. Today I get to show off the pretty glamor shots.  Now you'll note I'm still not showing you the whole socks.  Why?  Because I like to torture you?  No, wait, that's supposed to be a secret.  Um, because I want their first full frontal shots to have the benefit of the foot model and the [...]
