Eeeexcellent

Well it would appear I have license to blab away.  You guys are awesome for letting me know what you prefer.  And I'm somehow unreasonably pleased you want to hear about it.  Keeping quiet goes against my natural tendencies (or else why exactly would I have a website in the first place).  It also means I'll be able to keep posting with some regularity, despite being focused on book knitting rather than personal knitting. Of course I haven't abandoned personal knitting all together.  I did take a little break after the weekend of epic frustration. To keep from going into [...]

Discretion vs Shameless Over Sharing

I'm struggling with a bit of a question. I'm trying to find the right balance with sharing things on this site. Now don't worry, I'm not considering sharing the details of my digestion or my marriage or my finances. I am old enough (and possessed of a Victorian enough mindset) that I am not tempted to share those sorts of details with you. The things I'm talking about are all reassuringly knitting-related.  They have to do with Book the Second. It's more or less taken over every free minute of my life (and more than a few minutes that really [...]

April Knit Along

The April knit along is about to start over on Ravelry.  We're doing Heriz (that's the red one) and Afshari (that's the blue one).  If you've been thinking of making either of these, come join us.  I promise we're friendly!

Book Giveaway

The marvelous Wendy Johnson (the mastermind behind Toe Up Socks for Every Body and Socks from the Toe Up) has a copy of Silk Road Socks to give away.  Of course this makes me feel a fluttery in my tummy because Wendy is a real and proper designer (this apparently means 'designer I would be all nervous about meeting and whose books I've bought in actual stores').  But, because I love you all and want to take over your knitting needles, I'm stomping on my nerves and letting you know about the drawing.  Head over and leave a comment if [...]

Now it Feels Real

I'm an old-fashioned girl.  I like books.  Real, honest-to-goodness, paper books.  The heavy kind.  The kind that sit on shelves.  The kind that have a smell to them.  I like being surrounded by them.  They make me feel comfortable and settled and safe.  I find houses without visible books a bit disconcerting. Given this, I wasn't all that surprised when the electronic release of the book didn't quite feel real.  Don't get me wrong.  It felt good to have it out in the world, and it's been great to see what people are doing with the patterns.  And really, the [...]

Book Giveaway

Hey, know anybody who might want a sock knitting book and some yarn?  The lovely Laura Nelkin from Schaefer Yarn is having a wee giveaway of the book and a skein of Nichole in the color Chamomile.  My love of Nichole is well documented.  If you've not had a chance to use it yet, this might be the perfect excuse!

A Shift of Perspective

Generally, I'm anti-ad.  Almost always.  That's why it took me nearly 2 years to set up a mailing list and why I've sent only a tiny handful of messages to it.  I figure if you want to find me, you'll come here.  I shouldn't intrude. But the other day...I got what is now my very favorite ad ever. Ya know what makes an ad better?  If it has yarn in it. Ya know what makes an ad even better than that?  If it has your very own book in it. Which is exactly what I saw when I opened the [...]

Knit Along Patterns

The official thread for the February knit along is up on Ravelry.  The individual patterns for these two socks are also now available on Ravelry, in case you prefer to get the patterns one by one.  Some time between now and the start of February, Shannon and I will come up with official rules and post them in the group.  For now, the general idea is: cast on after it gets to be February, finish a pair by the end of March, be entered to win prizes.  Use whatever yarn you like, use whatever color you like, make whichever sock [...]

Super Secret Stealth Post

There might just possibly be a wee giveaway of the book over here.  Ya know....just on the outside chance that one of you happened to want a free copy.  Not that any of you knit socks or anything like that.  Does it make me a crazy stalker if I've refreshed a time or two to read the comments? P.S. Oh, and if you're worried about that 'skill testing question' thing, I think it's the Canadian equivalent of the no purchase necessary fine print on contests in the U.S. (and it may only apply to Canadian winners, though I'm not sure).  [...]
