A Shameful Lapse
It's the last day to get any of my sock patterns for $4.00. The sale ends tonight! So while we were on our impromptu pizza run, we just sort of happened to stumble into two yarn stores. They were (more or less) on the way home. And really, it's not a trip unless you get some commemorative yarn, right? The first was City Knits in Detroit. It's in a gorgeous building and was full of lots of lovely yarn. My resolve remained strong, and I bought only one skein of yarn. It's not even for me. The Boy saw some [...]
Thanksgiving Pizza and Other Tales
I believe in traditions. Traditions are important. They help remind you who you are. Now that said, I really don't believe you need to borrow anyone else's traditions, you're far better off making up your own. And so it is with the Thanksgiving Pizza. About a year before The Boy and I married, we (or it may have been just me) suffered from a bout of hysteria and decided it would be 'fun' to have 9 of our closest relatives over for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Now this might actually have been fun if the insanity hadn't set it. I [...]
Sale
I...um...accidentally fled the country in search of the Traditional Thanksgiving Pizza. I'll be back home later this evening and will explain all that, but in the meantime, I'm having a sale. All sock patterns are $4.00 from now until Monday evening. Avoid the lines and the infuriating Christmas music, stay home and knit in your pajamas instead. It's better for your sanity and your feet.
Deep in the Heart of Texas
Well I didn't get eaten by (or even see) a coyote. I did, however, see an armadillo (dead), a donkey, a few sheep, horses, cows (all alive), and several goats (quite lively). No, we didn't go to a petting zoo, these were just all hanging out by the side of the road as we drove around. There were also a variety of spiny plants that would have been perfect for hanging socks on. Alas, my organizational skills were not up to par and I never managed to find picturesque plants when I had completed socks with me. Instead I found [...]
Up and Away
Lots of little bits today, and no overarching theme. Is scattered a theme? No? Could we pretend it is? First, some business. Today's lucky winner is Darcy! She will be getting a skein of lovely yarn from Dicentra Designs in her favorite color, Opal Creek. I'll be in touch to work out the details. Next, knitting progress. I've actually been knitting rather a lot, I'm just keeping it secret to spite you. All will be revealed in time, but for now I can show you these. They're almost done and I'm just itching to finish them so I can hurry [...]
Filthy Lies
I know I promised information about a new sock pattern in this post. Not only have I kept you waiting a shamefully long time, but it turns out I was full of lies about that new pattern bit. There is a new pattern (there are actually several) and I will natter on about it shortly, but something else simply must be discussed first. That something is the illustrious Mr. Neil Gaiman and his astonishing proximity to my socks. I have photographic proof (and yes this is a shameless homage to Madam Harlot and her traveling photogenic socks - good ideas [...]
Now with More Knitting
It has been a shamefully long time since I put up a picture of a new knitting project. So, without further ado, the newest socks: They are called Xanthophyll and are knit with the lovely Zoe Sock from Shalimar Yarns in the color Sapote. This is one of the yarns I got at Sock Summit in exchange for a design. Zoe is a nice crisp merino and is a treat to work with. The skein has a generous 450 yards, and yellow is The Boy's favorite color, so it seemed obvious that this yarn should turn into socks for him. [...]
Lost in the Woods
I've been off in the woods. Of course my version of woods features comfy beds, delicious food, roaring fires, and complete protection from the elements. On the way to and from the woods I may have found a dozen or so yarn stores and accidentally bought the occasional bit of yarn. I might also have cast on another sock. Details and pictures to come over the next few days once I have my real computer and have crawled out from under the yarn pile.
Yarn, Part the First
Sock Summit was pretty much made of awesome on all levels. I can't possibly do it justice and so won't try to describe it. I would blather. It would be unseemly. Instead, I'm going to talk about one tiny aspect of the awesome. As I was getting ready to go to Sock Summit, a few of the vendors working there contacted me to ask about creating patterns for them with their yarn. I was flattered. There may have been a bit of undignified squeeing and perhaps a few goofy grins. I'll never tell. I'm still awfully new at this, and [...]
