Solefull Socks, review and giveaway

I got to know Betty Salpekar last spring at the writing retreat I attended in Washington (that's her in the back row, fifth from the right).  She was there talking about her fantastic new way of knitting socks.  I got to see many of her amazing creations, and have spent the intervening year trying hard not to follow her around going 'is it done yet, is it done yet, is it done yet' like a demented parrot (I figured it wouldn't actually speed things along, so I refrained).  But now the book is done and out, and I get to [...]

Colophon

The freshly revamped and rereleased pattern for Colophon is now up on ravelry.  Pics first, then info, but do read on because I've got yarn to give away too! I know these are simple little bits of knitting, but I admit I'm rather taken with them.  They work in any sock or fingering weight yarn and need shockingly little yardage.  The sample shown here used 125 yards of Space Cadet Creations' Ester (shown here in a custom club colorway, but if you are looking for a purple, their Plume is smashing and will fill all your purple needs).  In addition [...]

Lucent

Ok, important stuff first (but do read to the end, I've got yarn to give away).  This is Lucent. It's a marvelous little hat and cuff set.  It was a Woolen Rabbit club pattern back in the fall.  Ever since it came out, I've had oodles of folks asking when it could be theirs.  I don't blame them for being impatient (I've been eager to have this one out in the world too), and I'm delighted to say that the wait is over.  The pattern is now available. I adore this set.  The starburst is unreasonably fun to knit (and [...]

Under the big top, yarn and giveaway

I told you last time that I came home Friday to find a lovely little mood elevator hanging out on my front porch (yarn...fewer side effects than prozac, though it is rather habit forming).  And, while I showed you Kitten Overlord Barry chilling in the box it came in, I didn't actually show you the yarn.  Let's remedy that, shall we (click to embiggen)? That's a whole lot of yarny love, all from Jaala, mastermind the behind the Knit Circus empire (really, you should be listening to the podcast, it's fabulous).  Over on the left you've got three fingering weight [...]

Modern Colorwork Collection, review and giveaway

[note]This giveaway is now closed, the winner has been notified.[/note] Knitters are a clever bunch.  We take very long pieces of string and a pair of sticks and tie giant knots.  Beautiful, useful knots that you can wear.  It's a neat trick.  I really appreciate it when designers realize just how clever knitters are and write their patterns accordingly.  Miriam Felton has done just that with her recent Modern Colorwork Collection. The six pieces of this collection (three sweaters, a cowl, a shawl, and a pair of mitts) draw their inspiration from quilting and modern art.  The result is projects [...]

Sun Valley Fibers Giveaway

I don't want to make anyone else jealous, but I think I might possibly have the coolest job ever.  Visiting fiber festivals is market research, I get to indulge my bossy tendencies write patterns, and I spend most of my days at home in my pajamas in the company of the Kitten Overlords.  And if that weren't enough, every now and then a yarn company gets in touch and asks if I might possibly like to see some of their yarn (yes) and maybe even share some of it with you guys (also yes).  It's pretty darn cool.  Today I'd [...]

Goddess Collection, Review and Giveaway

[note]The giveaway is closed. Winners have been notified. Thanks to all who entered.[/note] I never quite manage anything as formal as resolutions, but I do believe in lists of things to do or things to learn.  One of the things that's been petitioning for a spot on my lists is 'knit a sweater.'  I confess, I have some doubts as to my endurance.  But the marvelous Jill Wolcott has come up with something that just might push me over the edge. Jill designs exactly the sort of sweaters I'd like to wear.  Feminine without being fussy and full of beautiful [...]

The Proper Tools (with Eucalan Giveaway)

This Friday and Saturday, I'll be off clambering over buildings, perching innocent friends on precarious railings, and spending way too much time lint rollering other people.  In other words, it's the photoshoot for KCC3.  That means the last few days have been a giant blocking extravaganza here at  Chez Violence. Just because I'm currently going a bit crazy doesn't mean you should suffer though.  In fact, I've actually got a little treat for you.  Read on for a giveaway of one of my favorite blocking goodies. (Knitting pictures kept intentionally tiny because while I love you all, I don't want [...]

Coop Knits Socks, Review & Giveaway

One of the most charming parts of TNNA (and yes, I do still owe you the official TNNA post, but I seem to have brought back the traditional TNNA cold, which has taken up residence in my ear and kept me more or less in bed, so this week has sort of gone spiraling away from me and I'm just the smallest bit behind)...ahem, as I was saying, one of the most charming parts of TNNA is finally meeting in person all those folks you've only known online.  Matching up names with faces (or let's be honest, blogs and twitter [...]
