Yes, another gray hat…it’s a theme
So look...gray hats are apparently just my happy place. It's true and I'm not even going to pretend I'm sorry. At least this one has speckles (Martin's Lab, Bouncy Sport in the color Candy Sparrow)! And is reversible... Which means I will, generally, make some sort of passing attempt to show you both sides as we go along. I won't always succeed...but I'll try. The side with the untwisted stitches faces out as you knit, and the twisted side faces in. So I'm going to generally call that right and wrong...but really nothing about this is wrong. Not one thing. We made it!
Everyone still here? Starting to wake up from the holiday fog and remember how to eat real food and wear real clothes and more or less be normal people instead of the cookie stuffed, pajama wearing, movie watching, midday napping couch gremlins we've been for the last week or two? Tiny bubbles
So I totally haven't decided if these look like bubbles or seed pods or bug wings or leaves or something else entirely. But I have decided they look awesome. And that they make me unreasonably happy. Heads up
This lovely little bit of business is coming one week from today. I used a skein of Hedgehog Fibres' Skinny Singles in Ghost (it took me a little less than 300 yards), just in case you want to do a quick stash dive or a bit of yarn procurement before it comes out! This is the perfect thing to do with single ply yarns (which can be a bit delicate, so hats are a perfect choice). Persevere
I know in my secret heart that I am happiest with a nice deep brim. I know, I really really KNOW that this means a minimum of five inches of ribbing (which when you fold it in half and stretch it onto your head turns into more like two and a half inches of brim). So why am I trying this on now. Now when it is clearly not yet five inches. Because that right there is the quickest way to ensure a hat languishes at the bottom of the hat bin, never to be worn. And after the swatches comes the cast on
All those swatches? All those many many many swatches? Well now that they've led to a stitch I'm happy with, now it's time to start the project. I'm going to have to do a post about how I cast on at some point...there are a lot of fuzzy ideas about cast ons floating around out there, and we should have a chat. But for now, I'm talking myself into slogging through a good five inches of brim, and that's taking all my motivation. Remind me how I pretty much only wear hats with nice folded brims, and so it's worth [...]
Now for the fun bit

Wovember
I have a talent for only hearing about these various hashtag festivities well after the fact, but I managed to catch the #wovember / #wearwoolforwovember business before the whole blasted month is over. So I'm totally using it as a little prompt to go digging in the woollies and wear something other than just what's still in my coat pocket as I go out and take a walk! So far so good. Vagaries (plus giveaway)
From time to time I have one of those days where I very much want to knit...maybe even need to knit...but I absolutely do not have the extra brain cycles to knit anything more complicated than plain stockinette in the round. On those days, a pattern like Vagaries can be just the thing. The vast majority of this really is just stockinette in the round.
