Lifecycle

Once, long ago, I took a weekend trip.  It was cold, so I made a hat.  I had a tiny bit of yarn left, so I made some very very wee cuffs to go with it.  Then, as is the way with knitted things, I wore the heck out of them.  They've been used for four winters, and they are showing some serious signs of wear. But, this isn't all bad.  I've been having great fun reworking and re-releasing old patterns.  I've always wanted the mitts to be a bit taller, and I've been feeling the need for a hat [...]

Winner

Congratulations to Linda who won the yarn, and thank you to everyone for your lovely comments.  I, personally, do not believe in the black/gray/navy winter coat.  I feel if I have to wear a coat, it had better be bright and colorful.  I have a pale blue light weight coat, a red heavy coat, a purple dressy coat, and a green cloak for those rare situations when a cloak really is the correct answer.  Of course I also feel that gloves/scarves/hats have to go with each other and with the coat.  It leads to a rather staggering number of accessories, [...]

Petiole

Petiole is out!  This was my super speedy "it's cold and I have to wear a coat and I don't want to wear a coat...so I'll distract myself with a hat" project.  I'm sure that says something unflattering about my mental faculties, but I like the hat, and I didn't freeze to death from refusing to wear a coat, so apparently it worked.  The wrist warmers were just a bonus squeezed out of the few yards leftover when the hat was done. I made both projects (in a size medium) out of one skein of Aslan Trends Bariloche in Tango [...]

Testing Call

I've put up a call for testers for the red leaf hat and mitts over on ravelry.  Head on over if you're just itching to make them right now.

Still Smitten

That leaf is just ridiculously fetching somehow.  It's all of 50 stitches (if that), yet it totally thrills me.  Apparently I am easily entertained.  I'm not sure this speaks well of my ability to count as a fully functional adult with good taste and reasonably good sense, but I'm also not sure I care. Now if only it would warm up to the point where those mitts could actually be worn outside...right now heavier armaments are called for.

Snippets

I had a really annoying amount of yarn left when I finished the Rochester hat.  It was too much to just toss in the scraps basket (used to be a jar, then it was a vase, now it's moved onto large basket status...something may soon have to be done about that), but it wasn't nearly enough for another hat.  I didn't have another skein (it's Aslan Trends Bariloche in Tango Reds).  I had added it to a Webs order to bring my total up to the magical free shipping/nice shiny discount level.  It was purchased on a whim, and I [...]

Home Safe

Thursday afternoon, as I was planning for our trip, I realized it looked like it might be a tiny bit chilly in Rochester.  I decided I would break down and bring my warm coat (I am coat resistant...I put off wearing the heavy ones as long as possible).  I got the notion that it would be a good idea to have a hat.  Somehow it seemed that a new hat would soften the blow of having to wear a coat.  Now you may recall I had already made myself one hat, but it goes with my light coat, not my [...]
