Quest
Monday morning saw me bundled up in my warm woollies, tromping through the forest, eggs in tow, in search of a good mossy rock. My quest was successful. Which means that our wee eggling friends should, barring any unforeseen catastrophes between now and then, be out Tuesday! Bonus points to anyone who successfully predicts the two different egg-shaped candies I brought along with me. And apologies to the lovely normal people out taking normal walks like normal members of society who came upon me, crouched on hands and knees behind the boulder, moving pine cones and sticks and fern fronds [...]
Sound reasoning
So there we were, in June of 2021, with two finished hats, one finished pair of mitts and, wonder of wonders, the completed charts and patterns (which I'd somehow managed to create in February of 2021, which I assure you, surprises no one as much as me). Like I very literally had two fully written patterns and two fully knit pieces. All I had to do was take the knits outside somewhere pretty one day, take photos, and release the pattern. Did I do this? Clearly not! What did I decide to do instead? Why, knit a second [...]
Quite some time
Ok, so just to recap, for those not hanging on my every word, in January of 2017 I cast on a hat. Presumably I finished it not too long after & then cast on some mitts to match and finished them too. Then, instead of, releasing the pattern like a normal person, I proceeded to shove the finished objects in a box, move them from Ohio to Maine, fling them into the depths of my deepest office storage, and forget about them them until December of 2019. At which point I discovered them and once again failed to do the [...]
But wait, there’s more
So, here's the thing. That hat and mitts? That fully finished, 100% complete, all the way done hat and mitts I showed you last time? The weren't the only thing lurking in the depths of the bin. There was also a second, functionally identical, hat very nearly finished. (And yes, I realize that they're both in light purple speckled yarns, which makes them a bit hard to tell apart...I'll see what yarn info I can dig up later in this saga, but that's not happening right now. Right now I'm confessing my sins so I can get this years [...]
Discoveries
Look, I'm sure that you are an absolute bastion of tidiness. A paragon of order. The very pinnacle of organizational prowess. You start a project, work on it consistently, complete it promptly, and then move onto the next project. In that order. At a steady clip. Every time. I, however, am not quite so fortunate. I am a person who found this in a basket in their office. This, in case the crumpled pile of purple fluff is not clear, is a fully finished hat and pair of mitts, ends woven in and everything. A stroll through the [...]
Comportment
First things first, this pattern is out today. It’s called Comportment. And you can take 10% off with the code WELL BEHAVED. Now look, if you've been here for a while, you know I am a sucker for matching sets. My fashion sense is extremely limited (and two years of hanging out at home in yoga pants and house sweaters have not done me any favors), but I remain firm in my conviction that if your winter accessories are adorable and more or less match, folks are more likely to overlook any sartorial eccentricities (this goes double if are sporting [...]
Options
Ok, question for the ages here folks, will you be filling your nest with knit eggs, candy eggs, or, um, possibly both? I really don't think we should discount the option of both! Though you folks are a clever lot with many good ideas, so maybe you'll do something else entirely! I have the first two of these I knit holding wee egg shaped pieces in a bird themed board game myself. Which is, admittedly, ridiculous. But also it makes me happy and hurts no one, so it's allowed! All the standard bits apply, yes it will be a pattern [...]
A brief delay…
I am, for sure, at *some* point going to do a 'oh, hey, look, stitches on top of stitches!' project. But right now all I want to do is get swatches and swatches and swatches in my hands and on my needles so i can get a feel for how different kinds of yarn look on each other. Which is super fun! I really enjoy it! But also it does not lead to quick pattern production. So I'll be over here swatching if you need me. And I'll just have to trust that it'll be worth waiting for. I suspect [...]
The one that got away
These fell out of my scraps bin. They go together perfectly. I have No Freaking Idea what they are or who they're by. Nor do I have enough to do the whole project. So they shall forever be memorialized as the perfect mystery swatch that cannot ever come to fruition. Please tell me you, too, have a perfect mystery yarn that haunts your dreams. Make me feel less alone.
