Tiny Nonsense

Yes, really, plastic

I'm going to talk about a thing that I like (plastic pellets in my knitting), but every time I talk about it, someone comes along & goes 'but whyyyyyy use plaaaaaaaaaaastic' (even on posts where I have explained, at length, exactly why). So I'm just going to preemptively request that folks not do that here, because it's kinda tiresome (to be fair, this is way way way more of a problem on instagram than here, you folks are cooler than that!). So here's the thing, I REALLY like how plastic pellets feel in my knits. They give things a heft [...]

I’ll be over here

Yup. Yup this is happening. And oh but it only gets worse from here. Consider yourself warned. If you want to head off in search of more somber, serious, respectable pursuits, I will completely understand. I will, in fact, pack you a lunch and wish you well on your journey. But I? I'm going to be hanging out right here. Doing this. And worse. For the foreseeable future.

Chase it

Folks, I fear things have gotten significantly out of hand. I have set the good, respectable, useful knitting aside. I do not expect to take it up again for quite some time. I have, instead, given myself over to the grip of this absurdity. I feel no remorse. None. I am scandalously unashamed. I know this will bring me absurd levels of glee, and I will by god chase that glee when I can. You can come along with me if you like.

Dance

Ahem. So, that hat? That extremely mellow hat I've been happily working away on? The first project EVER IN THE HISTORY OF TIME where I haven't really minded the big stretches of stockinette (look, I have a short attention span, stockinette does not always hold my focus)? Uh huh, well here's why I love it. When you come to the tiny stretches of color, you stop knitting stockinette and instead you Do A Fancy Thing! Just right there. In the middle of that vast field of plain stitches. You don't count. You don't follow a chart. You just notice 'oh, [...]

New to you

I fully admit this is not the most stimulating picture of yarn you're going to see today. But if it comes across your feed, I want you to take it as a tiny bit of encouragement to learn a new-to-you cast on. A year or two ago I learned how to do the pinhole cast on, and now I adore it. At first it seemed fiddly and wildly unnecessary and just generally not useful. Now I love it and use it frequently. I knit different things because my brain has this way to start a piece of fabric tucked [...]

Dread

I regret to inform you that, despite my very best efforts to the contrary, we are fast approaching the Festive Holiday Season, a period of rampant overspending, looming panic, forced good cheer, and general existential dread. Or possibly that's just me and you folks are a rather more balanced and mellow lot. But at least on my end, I tend to approach the end of the year with a certain sense of foreboding. Which, this year, I shall attempt to hold at bay through the production of Blatantly Absurd Wintry Cheer in knitted form. Do I know if it will [...]

Concoction

You folks are, on the whole, an astonishingly clever and creative bunch. There is every possibility that you have come up with something cooler or cuter to do with the cap off of your orange juice bottle, that expired credit card in your desk drawer, the empty chapstick tube in your purse, the dried out nailpolish bottle in your bathroom, or the spool of thread you just finished off. Though sweet crispy crackers if you did, I want to see it. Because this is pretty damn clever and cute. I mean, not notably practical. There are a limited array of [...]

Just wait, it’s coming

This? Um, I fully realize it doesn't necessarily look like it quiet yet, but this is the most joyful thing I've knit in quite some time. Because you see, we're just about to the spot where the yarn starts doing Secret Fancy Tricks. And once the yarn starts doing Secret Fancy Tricks, then I start following you around like a six year old with an art project going look what I did, look what I did. Because wow is it about to do cool things. Sit tight...lemme do a tiny bit more then I'll show you how it works! [...]
