Joining, part two
That top I started to fix a few weeks ago? Yeah, here's attempts two (ripped out) and three (the winner). So in case you don't happen to follow my every word with breathless attention, this is the neck opening of a sweater. It's open a bit farther down than I'd like, so I wanted to close it up a bit. I started by trying to just stitch it freehand (that was the post from a few weeks ago), but things shifted around a bit too much, so I stuck it in an embroidery hoop to hold everything still. That helped [...]
Who?
There we go. I am unspeakably pleased. As in, the other day when I was feeling a big under the weather, I wanted nothing more in the world than to hold this little buddy and fluff his wings about just so and just sort of revel in his chunky perfection. No, I can't explain it. No, it makes absolutely no logical sense. No, the tiny stuffed owl does not actually posses any magical healing properties. But wow is it high on the absurd coziness scale, and sometimes that's quite enough. As always, yes, it totally totally will be a pattern [...]
Holy. Smokes.
Folks...you should have warned me. No really, that was astonishingly fast. We hit (and oops, skidded right past) our goal in an hour. I'm actually kind of overwhelmed. Like, the good kind of overwhelmed! But it's going to take me a few minutes to dig out from under my inbox/comments, so bear with me if you emailed me (but I promise I'm working on it...I'm just sort of walking around blinking a lot and saying 'woah' in my best Keanu Reeves voice at the same time). So, practical stuff first. The sale is over, but the group doing all [...]
Kitten Fundraiser Sale
**Update 1** Holy smokes, we're more than half way there in half an hour, if you want in on this one, act quick! **Update 2** Well ok then, you folks are amazing, we blew past the goal in just about exactly an hour! That means the sale's over (the code won't work any more), and we'll be sending off a lovely big donation to the shelter later this week (it takes paypal a day or two to get the money to me, hence not sending it right this second)! I'll write a post about this (probably later today, but also [...]
Interlopers!
Kittens! Sales! Good deeds! What's not to love? There's gonna be a BIG sale tomorrow (you may want to set an alarm), and we're going to help some kittens. Read on for the details! So, if you don't watch my instagram stories or follow me on twitter, you might not know about the kitten interlopers. But yeah, there are kitten interlopers. Just over two weeks ago, I saw what I thought was a funny looking squirrel scampering up the tree in my flower bed. It was not a squirrel. It was a kitten. Or rather, it was several kittens. This [...]
Pause
Well then, that worked out rather well. Now don't worry, we're not done yet. There are tufts to trim and eyes to add, and I'll show you that here very shortly. But it is now at the point where I figure most folks looking at it will go 'oooooh, owl!!' and that's worth taking a moment to enjoy.
Wings
Ahem...now we pause for a moment to knit, well, to knit some tiny fuzzy wings. Because that's legit, nothing weird about that. Nope. Totally normal and reasonable. Carry on.
Stuffed
The next step is to stuff this little buddy nice and full. I've been making a lot of stuffed things lately, and I've come to really like these little plastic pellets. They're heavy and make the finished thing feel solid in your hand, which I find deeply soothing in some way I can't fully explain. So, they're a good fit for me, and I will continue to use them because I love the way they behave. But, every time I've shown them, I've had a couple of people getting a bit snarky about 'plastic, the scandal, I'm shocked, how could [...]
Handy
I really think you should have duplicate stitch in your bag of tricks. It's by far my favorite way to mend thin spots in my knitting. Once you get the hang of it, you can even use it to repair actual holes (I've got an old blog post where I do just that). It'll help you understand how knitted fabric works (and having that level of understanding of how the fabric goes together makes you So Much Better at catching and fixing mistakes in your knitting). But just as importantly, it lets you add all sorts of decorations [...]
