Speedrunning a skirt
On Saturday afternoon, I decided, for reasons probably known to someone but certainly not to me, that I absolutely had to make a skirt over the long weekend. Step one was dragging out the suitable candidates from the fabric pile. Then narrowing them down (the light colored plaid is a lovely silk and linen that is better suited to warm weather, as is the floral, I'm considering lining the purple one and don't have the fabric for that yet). That left two contenders, both of which I absolutely want to have available to wear this fall and winter. But the [...]
Monthly Reminder
Hey folks, let's talk about jury nullification!* Jury nullification is when someone on a jury says 'yup, the defendant totally did what they're accused of, but holy fuck that's a shitty law, so I'm going to find them not guilty anyway.'** And then they keep saying not guilty as long as it takes. And then the defendant doesn't get punished for doing something that shouldn't be illegal in the first place. This comes in handy if, say, someone is in trouble for something like ending their own pregnancy or helping someone else end theirs (or for opposing the actions of [...]
Messy ends
Ok I know. I know that this looks like nothing so much as a pile of messy ends and poor choices. And that may well prove to be the case! But I think that if we tidy things up a bit and give it a bit of structure, we might well end up with something rather more presentable. And yes, it's the first draft, which means there are tweaks to come. But oh, oh i think it's close enough that it's worth doing, don't you?
Fried
Fried is out! It’s free for folks who either preordered my knitted bacon kit (you can see the knitted bacon in the picture too) or are paid members on Patreon. Anyone with any level of paid Patreon membership gets the pattern (it’s not available to buy otherwise)! I know Patreon is new or scary for some folks, but the pattern either comes through payhip or goes in your ravelry library just like always (and anything you put in your library while you’re a member is yours forever). Memberships start at $3 (so this is cheaper than buying the pattern directly), and [...]
Not long at all
I told you you wouldn't have long to wait! I spent much of Sunday playing with the new batch of cyanotype paper I just made. So far I have learned that the new paper (the roll I got to do the mini wall pockets with) is absolutely delightful to work with...and that it tears if you blink at it funny when its wet. Which meant I spent a good portion of my weekend figuring out the best method to shift damp tissue paper around without ruining it. But I have a method now, which means I get to play...
Laboratory vibes
So when last I left you, I had remembered I like cyanotype prints, remembered and had all the stuff to make the fancy paper, and realized I had roll of a cool new kind of paper I got to do mini wall pockets with. Which led to adorning my kitchen counter with rather a lot of paper and tape then mixing up a variety of mildly noxious potions. Then, once the sun went down, I painted the potions on the papers and left them to dry. Yes, you do this bit in as close to darkness as you can manage, [...]
More pockets
Remember how, back at the beginning of this month, I confessed to having all sorts of feelings about a silly folded piece of paper? Yeah. So. I'm folding another piece of paper. This time I'm working on a smaller/quicker version that goes together in an hour or so and uses staples and a ruler (as compared to the big one which takes four or five hours, usually spread over two days, and uses a sewing machine and an iron). This is just the first draft (meaning there are changes to come and improvements to be made!), but I am quite [...]
Grill’s closing
Bacon kit preorders close Thursday. This is me doing that thing where I try to post at least twice about limited time stuff that I know someone is going to be sad they missed. (Is there a constant, ongoing battle between 'don't annoy people, you already told them once' versus 'uuuh huh, and how often have you forgotten about something you wanted to do because you only saw it once and you were busy right then and really did mean to get back to it but then the cat caught a moth and you had to go negotiate a peace [...]
Secret compartment vibes
So Friday, as I was driving home, I found a treasure on the side of the road. A treasure with strong secret compartment vibes (I can't actually call it a secret compartment because it is very clearly not secret and is in fact the whole point of the thing...but it does have the vibes). I spent a good chunk of the weekend cleaning it up, fixing the hinges, replacing the knobs, and just generally giving it a little love (you can follow along on these three posts on instagram). And now...well now it looks like this! Post over here with [...]
