I’m sensing a theme
So yeah...things have been a tiny bit busy (finalizing patterns for Curls 3...getting ready for Silk Road Socks launch...oh yeah and another slightly terrifying project I'll tell you about some time later this summer if it doesn't do me in first). And that means I am not doing nearly enough knitting. We were away for more than a week and I knit about 4 rows of that silly face cloth. And we've been home for more than a week and well...I've knit about 4 more rows. I don't think I've ever knit this little (and I'm quite sure I don't [...]
Super duper bonus fun
So I know on the first and third Tuesdays I usually release a pattern, but today I wanted to do something a tiny bit different. Today I've updated the version of Curls 2 to include links to the Stitch Maps for each of the patterns. So at this point, I'm guessing you're having one of two reactions. Either you're thinking 'yay, it's about time, I loved them in the first Curls and have been wondering where the heck they were for Curls 2' (in which case, if you already have Curls 2 in your rav library, head over there right [...]
One more time…
Yeah, so the last facecloth turned out handy enough that this sort of happened. I promise I'm more surprised than you are. And yet, here we are... Now, if one of you could keep me from ending up with a dozen of these, that would be great.
So many swatches
You're probably getting sick of seeing these, but they're really all I'm knitting these days, so you'll just have to make do. I promise I'll get something else on the needles as soon as a few more of these are safely off in the hands of knitters! But for now, it's all Curls 3 swatches all the time. At least they're pretty though, right? Because really, there's nothing at all wrong with that! It's one of Indigo Dragonfly’s Tornadoz sets on Chameleon Sock in the color Cahoots. And, just for the record, this is another example of 'see how much [...]
More incoming…
So at some point here I should probably start talking in detail about Silk Road Socks and how it will be out next month and how it's full of lovely things and how I very much hope you will like it as much as I do. But for right now, I'm just going to show you one of the sample socks I helped sort out (sometimes I put sample knitters in touch with yarn makers to get samples made for shows...which means I get to pet some truly lovely socks). That's one of the patterns in the book (I'll tell [...]
Incoming
So, I know you though my mailbox was already just about the happiest place it could be (what with all the delightful Curls 3 yarn coming in). But no...no it gets better. The actual pieces themselves have started coming in too! Take a look at this. That's the Cheshire Cat base from Wonderland Yarns / Frabjous Fibers. The gray bits are Goat’s Beard, and the colorful bits are the Yellow to Fuchsia color morph. And up there is what it looks like before you block it... And that's what it looks like after. See why I'm always (always always always) [...]
So when I say I knit a lot of swatches
Yeah...so about that swatching thing...I really do mean it. And right now, I'm hard at work on Curls 3 swatches. That's one little doodle with one of the lovely Varigradients from Seven Sisters Arts. The yarn is perfect, the stitch is fun, but I'm not 100% sure I'm sold on the combination. So I try again...and this has lots of promise. And again, this is absolutely normal. It's totally not a sign that anything is wrong. It's just that swatching is sort of the knitter's equivalent of sketching...and you sometimes need to do more than one to find just the [...]
Keepsies (plus giveaway)
Every now and then you stumble across an opinionated skein of yarn...a skein of yarn that wants to be knit in stockinette and simply will not take no for an answer. I happened upon a skein like that, and Keepsies is the result! So I'm not going to lie. This is more or less just a tube of stockinette. Yes there's ribbing at the bottom to make it behave, but after that, you just settle in and knit every stitch until it's tall enough. No fancy business at all. But then? Then you come to the top. And that's where [...]
Oddly Satisfying
So it's done, and it would be a lie to say I enjoyed knitting it (though really...that's probably the case for about half the things I knit...I just get bored half way through no matter what), but I do like how it came out. And I know I will like having it. The trick is to have the thing and enjoy using it longer than you grumbled about making it! Now...I just have to come to grips with the fact that this took just under 1/3 of the yarn...meaning I could have two more if I got to feeling industrious.
