Tiny Nonsense

Better

Well lookie there.  The power of a little (gentle) public motivation is pretty impressive. Toes.  Two of them.  Ends all woven in and blocked and everything!  We'll just sort of ignore how one toe is distinctly red and the other distinctly purple.  That's just the sort of thing that happens from time to time.  Instead we'll focus on Lovely New Socks for the sock basket. And, since the pattern is already out, I get the unspeakable luxury of just wearing them, right away, rather than carefully setting them aside until I can manage photos.  I may have to just wear [...]

Languish

It's time to finish these up.  Well no. It's been time to finish them up for about nine months now.  I got this yarn last May, cast on more or less right away, knit one sock with all good speed, knit part of the next sock, wrote the pattern, got it out (with the help of some super duper sample knitters), and then let the half finished second sock sit in the knitting basket for an age.  The last sign I can find of it on the blog is July. Well this weekend I picked it up, banged out 30 [...]

Themes

Apparently it's all cables all the time around here.  What can I say, they're just nifty.  I can't really help myself.  Let's do a little run down of cabled things due out over the next year or so (let's also pretend there's a giant, flashing, obnoxiously insistent asterisk right here pointing you to a big disclaimer about how none of these dates are at all set in stone, and you should absolutely expect them to wiggle about a bit). The zig zag mitts (which written and off with testers right now, probably coming out this summer). The slippers (I'm working [...]

Stubborn

Remember the Alarmingly Perky Yarn from the other day?  Well we had a little trial run.  It had some rather strong opinions, and so our first go didn't quite work out. But version two is on the needles already, and things are going much more smoothly this time around. I'll need to bang out a few dozen more rows to be sure I like where it's going, but I'm pretty sure it will work. Anything too intricate fights with the yarn, so I'm keeping this super simple, but sometimes that's just the ticket.  I've just got to put in the [...]

Peregrinate (plus giveaway)

You know when your knitting hits that perfect, meditative place? The spot where your fingers know just what to do and your stitches flow perfectly and all you have to do is sit back and admire your work?  Well Peregrinate totally hit that spot for me, and I'm so glad to have them back out! The pattern on the leg is very mellow.  Just knits, purls, and teeny tiny cables.  You'll have it memorized in no time, and the result is something really lovely. Things get a little more interesting when you get to the foot.  The main pattern slowly [...]

The Opposite of Fiddly

The last two knitting projects required a fair amount of planning and fiddling and counting and perhaps even some scheming.  Which is fine.  I'm good at those things and I enjoy them.  But I might just be about ready for a knitting project that doesn't require much of that at all.  And I think I have just the yarn. That's totally one where you want to just sit back quietly and let the yarn do all the work for you.  Which sounds like a lovely little break if you ask me.

And now we block

So, progress on several fronts.  Slippers are done. Cuffs are done. I have a small pile of ends to weave in and then everything needs to be blocked (because wow is there a difference between blocked and unblocked folks, block your knitting), but this is nifty.

Yup

Slipper? Slipper! Still? Uh huh. Still entertained? Uh huh. Feel bad about that? Not even a little. Almost done? 3 rows and a toe to go. Gonna do a pattern? Yup, totally. When? I'll write it soonish, but my guess is it won't be out till the fall.  They feel like a nice September sort of pattern, but I'm making no promises. But what if I want it now?  I know, I'm mean. Or, possibly, there are lots of other things on the schedule ahead of it (you know, like Curls 2), and it takes a while to make sure [...]
