Tiny Nonsense

Growing

The sock continues to grow! Funny how fast that plain bit in the middle goes...there might be something to all those folks who like more sedate socks.  But the plain bit is rapidly approaching its end (which is good, because while it's fast, it's not exactly holding my attention).  We'll be doing a bit of a toe boogie here next.  I predict it will be nifty.

TNNA

Well that was fun!  I'm back from TNNA.  (It's the big industry trade show.  Yarn companies, tool & notion makers, and publishers go there to show off what they do, and yarn stores go there to see what they might like to carry in their shops.)  It was a blast.  I finally feel like I'm getting the hang of this (it apparently took me until my fourth show to feel comfortable at it, but I got there, so I'm calling it a win). I did a few book signings, caught up with lots of lovely people I only get to [...]

Attention Span

The sock now has its very own leg and heel flap (and lovely ones at that). I've figured out how I want to handle the foot and the toes.  I'm quite confident these will be cozy socks.  Alas, knowing how I want them to look means that I'm completely and totally ready for the sock to be done, and I don't especially want to knit any more of it. This is actually the problem I have with most knitting.  I love the figuring out bit.  And I love the having the finished object bit.  I'm just not so keen on [...]

Socks…I remember those

Somehow (we won't dwell on how), I've managed to go something close to a year and a half without casting on a pair of socks for myself.  Now, part of this is due to the state of my sock basket (full) and part of it is due to my calendar (also full).  But some of it is clearly due to some sort of character flaw.  So Saturday, as I finally rendered the stinky yarn usable (lots and lots and lots of washing and lots of time in the sunshine), and contemplated its sock-like characteristics, I realized I just had to [...]

Commerce

Last time we chatted about the critters of the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival.  This time, let's talk about the loot.  Now, I'm normally rather restrained at these events.  I just don't go through much yarn (and when I do knit something, I like it to be in a yarn I can use for a pattern, and that imposes a whole new set of constraints on my shopping).  But I did find a few goodies. The first is some long, wooden dpns.  I used to think I didn't care for wooden dpns (and I still don't like them at small [...]

Critters

You know that thing where life sort of conspires against you and you decide you Simply Must Leave For A Bit.  There's really not any choice about it, you just need to Flee.  Yeah, well, that's been going on.  So last weekend, I fled.  I went down to the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival with a friend for a bit of relaxation and distraction (plus a bit of scheming...because really you need some scheming in any good weekend). As often happens at these things, there were critters.  Critters are quite good at providing distractions.  There were live silk worms (which [...]

Sybaritic (plus giveaway)

Remember Sybaritic?  I know at least some of you do!  You've been asking about them ever since I took my early patterns down for a revamp.  Well now they're back and better than ever (new pictures, new charts, new layout, and an extra size). I realize I likely shouldn't be hopelessly smitten by leaves.  They're not hard to knit and don't require too much special attention.  But oh my are they awfully cute on this sock.  The one on the top of the foot just about does me in every time.  I suspect you'll be fond of it, too. For [...]

Woven

I have an unreasonable fondness for knitted fabrics that look woven at first glance.  It's one of the reasons I love this curl.  It's got all of the structure of a woven fabric with the stretch and bounce of a knit.  The back of it is even pretty too (always a nice touch in a wrap, as I am pretty much incapable of making sure just one side faces forward). I am really really looking forward to the photo shoot for these.  It's going to be an unreasonable amount of fun. Just remind me that it's impractical to drag Alethea [...]

Pssssst

A little birdie sheep told me that Sybaritic are coming back next week.  I know you guys have been wanting these (really, Sybaritic and Plicate were the two patterns I got the most requests for while they were on hiatus).  There will be a post (and giveaway) when they go live next week.  But if you happen to be on the mailing list, you'll get a notification (and a coupon) for them when they come out.
