Make a Little Trouble
Remember how, when I'd show you projects over the last few months, I'd say 'yes, they'll be part of a new mini book in the fall?' Well, that mini book went off to the printer this morning! It includes the socks the rail bridge ate, the socks that played chicken with the train, the socks that got us sternly told off by the security guard (I see I neglected to post about that, perhaps I'll have to remedy that soon), the mitt that got away...temporarily, the cuff that's firmly pinned in place, and the hats that took a field trip. Casualty
Last night found The Boy and I clambering around on the underside of our local abandoned railroad bridge in pursuit of excellence in sock photography (as you do). This particular spot had lots of advantages. It's local, accessible through one of the area parks, and maintained enough to be safe yet decrepit enough to be picturesque. It's really all you could hope for, and the shots came out beautifully. Alas, there was one small problem. Some of those more picturesque bits? They were sticky. Polyommatus argiolus Knit Along
I’ll be having knit alongs for each of the pattern pairs in The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet, Volume II. Omnivorous
We have two chairs in the family room. They are the tv and knitting chairs. Apparently, we've not been feeding them appropriately. Last night, one of them decided to eat the blanket. I don't know if this is because he was hungry or as some sort of act of protest. We'll be addressing the issue in therapy later. But first, the blanket needed some first aid. See that? Hole. More Obliging Still
Sometimes you go to the sketchy parts of town to find the right atmosphere, and sometimes you find it closer to home. Perhaps just around the corner, in the garage of an abandoned house. You know, the garage with the hole in the roof and the tree growing out the middle of it and the distinct cant to the left. Not the best thing ever when it comes to, say, property values, but very handy indeed when you need to grab a quick knitting pic after dinner. Come Say Hi
Wanna come say hi? I'm going to be one of my area yarn stores, Knitting on the Square, in Chardon, Ohio this Saturday from noon to two. I'll be signing the books (KCC1, KCC2, and Rabble Rousers will all be there), and I'll bring lots of lovely samples. Obliging
I have very obliging friends. When I texted Laura and said 'hey, wanna drive around the sketchier parts of town and take knitting pictures?' she very graciously said 'sure!' instead of summoning the authorities like a reasonable person might. The goal was to get pictures of the stripy malabrigo hats I knit last winter. I wanted some properly grungy backdrops because these will be part of a little collection (another mini book like Rabble Rousers), and I needed a particular ambiance. Proof
I'm not the sort to make the bed. I really have a hard time seeing the point. My bed is not a decorative object, it is an object of use. Making the bed makes it prettier, but less useful. I'm opposed to this on philosophical grounds (it's the same objection I have to many of the world's more ludicrous shoes...they may make me prettier, but they also make me less useful). I'm also deeply lazy. So I more or less never make the bed. I did, shockingly, make an exception for the new duvet covers. Just this once mind you. [...]
