Yes, More

I just realized I've been a terribly negligent blogger.  I've got three little things I should have told you about.  Bad blogger, no cookies for you.  The first is a little history of my knitting over on Alana's podcast, Never Not Knitting.  You can all go hear just how bad a start I got off to when I first learned to knit!  The second is an inverview with the lovely Stacey of Fresh Stitches.  We chat about all sorts of things, and you can see what my office looks like if you've been itching to know.  And finally, the lovely [...]

Wee Hat the Second

Again, not actually all that wee.  Same idea as before, glorified stripes, never more than one color on a row (because I'm lazy and not a very good knitter, that's why). This one was super speedy.  Cast on when I finished the first one, cast of yesterday.  Still smitten.  One more to go at least.  Once again, the texture is best seen by swinging around to the side a bit.  The little nubbly poofs amuse me to no end.  They also tempt Barry into unspeakable misbehavior, so these have to go on a nice high shelf.

Wee Hat the First

The first of the wee hats is done.  I'm now madly in love with this whole concept.  But really, what's not to love. First, hats.  Hats are more or less instant gratification. Second, worsted.  Worsted weight yarn actually knits itself.  You just have to nudge it gently and the finished thing falls off your needles. Third, Malabrigo.  This one requires no explanation, just look at the color.  Colors.  I'm helpless in the face of such temptation. Fourth, stripes.  Stripes are the (or at least this) lazy person's answer to colorwork.  I swear you never ever ever touch more than one [...]

Step 1, Burn the Candle

Yesterday, I sent the bulk of KCC2 off to Genius Book Designer (hint, I make the knitting pretty...she makes the book pretty and useable...we like her).  Now this in no way means the book is done.  It just means all of the patterns and the bulk of the other text is ready for her to work her magic.  It's one of those milestones I talked about.  It's not an endpoint (that doesn't come until the book goes off to the printer), but it is a nice little resting point.  So, after sending off the book, I decided to do something [...]

Growing

Alrighty.  You should be able to see what's going on here now a bit better. It's about 4.5 inches tall now and I'm really liking it.  The colors absolutely work together (not sure I could wear that particular color of greeny-yellow without looking like I'd eaten bad clams, but the sprocket in question totally can).  I'm doing this neat scrunchy stitch that sort of rucks the fabric up into little riffles.  Let's see if I can show that to you, it's hard to see straight on, but if we swing around and look from the side maybe? And no, it's [...]

Wee Hats, Part 1 (Not so Wee)

I've learned something.  Five year olds have heads that are more or less the same size as adult humans.  At least some five year olds do.  My secret plan is to go for super stretchy and thus forgiving as to size (and also hopefully thus somewhat long lasting). This is Malabrigo Worsted in Emerald and Frank Ochre.  The colors were somewhat dictated by what was in the stash at the moment.  It was late, I needed a cast on fix right then, (there would be none of this leaving the house and procuring yarn or ordering and waiting for the [...]

All Official Like

Lookie what I got in the mail: That's my lovely spiffy notice from the Copyright Office saying that Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet is all registered and official.  I find it amuses me to no end (though admittedly, I am easily amused).  I'm still tickled that I seem to have  managed to create a real book (however that's defined) while hiding in my office wearing mostly pajamas and supervised by no one save the kittens.  I've even tricked the copyright folks into believing it!

Unheard Of I Tell You

As predicted, 45 minutes of knitting brought about the end of the second sock.  That's two whole socks...all the way down to the toes.  I wouldn't make such a big deal of this, but these are the, um, second pair of socks I've managed to finish this year.  Now that doesn't mean I haven't had socks on the mind (I've spent lots of quality time thinking about all the socks for KCC2), just that I haven't had many socks on the needles.  I rather miss them.  Especially when they come out like these! But, it seems my very next project [...]

Nifty

So that thing?  Where you use sticks to pull loops of yarn through other loops of yarn?  And get a shaped and decorated fabric as a result?  Yeah.  Turns out I like that. I actually found an hour to sit still and do it this weekend.  Amazing I know.  Turns out it makes me happy, and that sitting down and actually doing the knitting is key to making progress on the project. I've got part of a toe left until the second sock is finished.  That means I need about 45 minutes and it will be done.  Chances are, I [...]
