Fever Dreams
So I seem to have lost a week. Some time weekend before last, I thought to myself 'hmm, I have a bit of a sniffle, perhaps I'll lie down for a moment.' Then yesterday I dragged my stinking carcass out of bed, blinked, grunted, and wondered what the hell happened to the intervening week. That's a slight exaggeration, but not much. I more or less did the bare minimum necessary to be considered a functional adult for the last nine days. Eat, shower, feed the cats, mind the blog. That's about it. Alas, The Boy also got the same strain [...]
Coop Knits Socks, Review & Giveaway
One of the most charming parts of TNNA (and yes, I do still owe you the official TNNA post, but I seem to have brought back the traditional TNNA cold, which has taken up residence in my ear and kept me more or less in bed, so this week has sort of gone spiraling away from me and I'm just the smallest bit behind)...ahem, as I was saying, one of the most charming parts of TNNA is finally meeting in person all those folks you've only known online. Matching up names with faces (or let's be honest, blogs and twitter [...]
Let Me Help You With That
Like many of the designers I know, I very very rarely buy pattern books. Part of this is because I don't have time to knit other people's patterns (I don't have time to knit my own patterns), and part of it is because I don't want to accidentally see something someone else has done and have it lodge deep in the back of my brain and come spilling out in one of my own patterns. This rule does not apply with stitch dictionaries. Those I buy with complete and utter abandon. If I see a new one, I buy it. [...]
Lycaena virgaureae Knit Along
I’ll be having knit alongs for each of the pattern pairs in The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet, Volume II. This month we're starting the two patterns inspired by the Lycaena virgaureae print (you can click on the print to see it bigger, it really is quite lovely). That's these delicate orange socks. And this delicious orange shawl. If you’d like to join in, swing on by the ravelry thread and get knitting. This is pretty laid back for a knit along (too many rules make my head hurt). The general idea is cast on any time now…knit…post a picture showing your [...]
Sandy
One of the goals for the San Francisco trip was to get some photos of the current sock. We tried going out and finding something with the bridge in the background (we're tourists, we're allowed), but it wasn't quite working out. So I stuffed the socks in my purse as we headed out on our last day in town. We were going to Point Reyes for a bit of beach storming, and I thought there might possibly be the odd bit of pretty we could use for sock pictures. Yup, that will do. That too. We stomped our way out [...]
Miss Blossom
I'm back from TNNA and suffering from that odd mixture of exhaustion and exhilaration that comes from long hours spent in the company of others who do this funny thing I do. I both want to take a very long nap, and want to start in on all the new projects that came to mind while I was there. I think what I'll likely do instead is the super exciting stuff like laundry and grocery shopping. I'll try to share bits and pieces of what happened while I was there over the next few weeks. But for now, I have [...]
TNNA Bound
If all has gone according to plan (and if you're reading this on Saturday or Sunday), I'm currently hanging out at the Visionary Author booth at TNNA (we're in 114, 116, & 118 so come say hi if you're there). In order for that to happen, all of these things (plus, you know, a small suitcase full of clothes...oh, and two chairs) will have somehow made it from my living room, into my car, down to Columbus, back out of my car, and into the booth. I'm very much hoping that by the time you read this, that has all [...]
Out the Door
I'm out the door bright and early this morning and on my way to TNNA. This afternoon is booth set up, this evening is stiff drinks and catching up with friends. I'm looking forward to it. Levon, on the other hand, does not seem to approve. He thinks I just got home and have no business heading out again so soon. I'm not totally sure he's wrong... Hah, AS I was typing the above, Barry and Douglas came to join the party. Why have one kitten when you can have three! Note, this kitten configuration is unstable and did not [...]
This Time I Brought the Camera
I am packing for TNNA. Or possibly driving to TNNA. Or, depending on just how much time I have and how diligent I am about writing posts ahead of time to go up while I'm down there, possibly even hanging out at TNNA. But just because I'm in a bit of a panicked daze doesn't mean you should go without something to see. So, how about a bit of yarn store yumminess, hmm? From the moment I found out we were going to San Francisco, I knew I wanted to visit A Verb for Keeping Warm. I'd first seen their [...]
