Earlier this month, we did a perfectly respectable, unquestionably useful, deeply practical hat. So of course this time we need to do something absurd, just to maintain balance. I'm pretty sure these strawberries qualify! There is absolutely nothing practical about them. They serve no useful purpose. And I'm not really sure I'm qualified to speak to respectability, but anything that red must have something to blush about. Loopy
One of the many delightful things about Very Fancy Washcloths is being able to put a wee little loop on them so you can hang them up. And now yes, it does alas mean you end up knitting four and a half miles of icord (technically, more like 8 inches, but around the 7 inch mark those two might as well be the same thing), but I swear it's worth it in the end.
Fairly Subtle
Ok, so the goal here was 'fairly subtle mend'...in part because 'perfectly invisible mend' was just not going to be an option on this one. But I feel like this is hitting the 'fairly subtle' goal pretty darn well! As is so often the case, there's a 'flop it around and watch it wiggle' version over on instagram, should you be in want of such a thing.
Strawberryish
Never fear, we are not afflicted with a strange strawberry bleaching plague, there are indeed also red strawberries! It's just...you know...'bright, true, strawberryish red' is about the least represented color in my entire stash, whereas 'chalky, dusty, pencil eraserish pink' is much easier to come by. But I wasn't going to go through a strawberry phase without sneaking in at least a couple of red ones!
Valid
So sometimes, for completely legitimate and valid reasons, you find yourself needing to knit a teeny tiny brioche leaf. This is especially likely to happen if, say, last fall you knit a whole stack of much bigger brioche leaves to make The Best Washcloths Ever, and now you find yourself needing to remind your fingers and brain how yarn works so you can finish up the pattern. Assembly line
It's a strawberry assembly line over here, and I suspect it maybe the same at your house in the not too distant future, so let's run down what you need to make these! Elbows
This sweater is several years old and had been in heavy rotation that whole time. And elbows are just heavy wear areas, so they’re often the first spot to wear out. But if you catch them in time, you can totally fix it…so let’s do that! Wiggle version with flopping and poking over here, should you be so inclined...
Things occur
I regret to inform you that all good sense has fled. All that is left is a fondness for absurdities and a susceptibility to cute things. And when you mix that with a whole bunch of yarn scraps and a scandalous lack of self restraint...well...things are bound to occur.
Flair
There is something So Dam Satisfying about this stitch. I think it's because it's built around ribbing (which is easy and practical and functional always looks good) but has just enough flair that you don't get bored. And really, I know it looks a bit fancy (sort of like cables? sort of like little starbursts? sort of like something all together different?), so you kind of want to peer at it and go 'huh, how does it do that?!'
