All done
And here we are, all fixed and back together and ends woven in and blocked! And yes, I fully admit that no one other than me was going to notice the wobbly bits that were driving me to distraction. But it's my hat, so I get to fix things that will bug me, even if they won't bother anyone else. Plus this way I get to inflict The Ridiculous Mending Saga on innocent bystanders (that's you). Enough folks were missing this one that I'll bring it back, likely some time next week, so you won't have long to wait if [...]
As little as possible
I very much hope you are spending today and tomorrow doing as little as possible in the nicest possible way! If your version of doing as little as possible includes coloring, there are some coloring pages based on those paper stars for you to download and play with. I may...I may have ordered some shrink plastic stuff...for science you understand...I'll report back once it's arrived. Again...for science.
Monthly Reminder
Every month I do a post saying 'abortions are good' & send a donation to Aid Access. I don't do this because I think my donations are enough to do actually fix anything. I know they're not. I do it because I want as many people as possible to know that abortion pills are safe and effective. That you can get them online, by mail, everywhere in the US (even in places where abortion is banned). That you can get them right now, even if you're not currently pregnant (they keep for several years). And that you can get them, [...]
Sorted
I continue to be imaginary, but the blanket repair is sorted. Once I had all the live stitches picked up, I just bound them off with a nice stretchy bind off. It's tedious, because it's long, but not hard. And yes, fine, it probably is ridiculous to fix a blanket I paid thirty bucks for ten years ago. But also, now that it's fixed, it should last several more years. And repairing the One True Blanket is certainly easier than trying to find another one that meets the exacting blanket criteria. So since I can, why not just do it!
Imaginary
I am currently imaginary. I do not exist. I am not doing work. I am not checking email. I am not being productive. I am napping. Or watching a movie. Or napping. Or possibly cooking something...or at least eating something. But probably napping. But, while on my nap-fueled, doze-filled bender of middle-aged debauchery, I'm also doing a bit of mending. Because you know how sometimes you have that One True Blanket that has just the right texture/feeling/size/drape/vibe? And so it is the preferred blanket, no matter how old it is or what it looks like? Yeah. My partner has one [...]
Spiffy
I suspect it says absolutely nothing flattering about my character (or at least my attention span), but every single time I get to one of the bright speckles, I go 'ooooh, spiffy' and feel better about the world for like two whole seconds. I'll drag this out somewhere photogenic and see what we can do about getting the pattern for it back out early next month!
Distracting
Need a low-stakes, low-stress project today? The coloring book based on those paper stars might do the trick! It's free, and anyone can download it right over here. I can't promise it'll keep your kids distracted or make your terrible relative any less infuriating. But I spent a happy hour distracting myself with pretty colors and tidy lines and orderly shapes. And sometimes that's enough to call it a win. Here's hoping your day isn't too stressful and has at least a few moments of calm!
Completely fair
And back up we go. I timed it, and each column (assuming I'm not stopping to take photos or videos) takes me about four minutes to run down and then work back up. So including the time to rip the decreases out and reknit them, fixing this will take less than two hours of work. Which, given that I knit the whole hat in two afternoons, seems completely fair.
