April Knit Along
In April we're doing Serab and Nain in the knit along. If you've been meaning to get either of those on your needles, come over and join us. I promise we're nice! And we all have excellent taste in socks. This is definitely the low stress, low drama sort of knit along. Use whatever yarn you want, make whatever mods you want (some people are doing them toe up and it's awesome for me, the top down die hard, to watch). Some clever folks are even taking the sock designs and putting them on sweaters. I'm totally impressed! And you've [...]
Shameless Plug
There is absolutely no knitting content here. None at all. If you're only in it for the knitting, you'll want to wander away and come back tomorrow. Saturday night, we went to see our very favorite band ever. Their name is Jukebox The Ghost, and they are made entirely of awesome. If you're looking for some insanely peppy new music, check them out. They've got quite a few free songs floating around on their website, and they're well worth a listen. They are a sure fire cure for even the crappiest of moods. They tour constantly, and are well worth [...]
WWMDFK
As you may perhaps recall, a few months ago The Boy and I took a stroll to a little stream in the woods for a bit of a photo shoot. Just as a public service announcement, I'm still not sure splashing around in freezing water with pneumonia is a good idea. I am, in fact, fairly sure it is not a good idea. But it was entertaining. And cold. The photos were for Heather's charming new book What Would Madame Defarge Knit?, which came out this weekend. It's a collection of patterns based on characters from classic literature. You can [...]
Keen
So a little while ago I mentioned that Webs had cemented itself in my mind as producer of my very favorite ad ever (for utterly selfish reasons I might add). It seems they now have a bit of competition. Turns out Knit Picks has similarly good taste. See that wee picture down in the corner? That's mine. I must confess, it is still deeply odd to see my wee little book in real live stores. Satisfying, but odd. I'm totally willing to get used to it though!
Good Omens
I am more or less the least superstitious person you're ever likely to meet. I don't believe in ghoulies or ghosties, signs or spirits. I am, at least most of the time, alarmingly practical and frightfully level headed (or, as some have suggested, soulless and dead inside, whichever you prefer). That said, I do rather like the instruction that came in my fortune cookie last night. Now of course I know that fortunes are written to be as broadly appealing and as generally applicable as possible. That's why they work. But I feel like expanding my horizons is exactly what [...]
Knit Along Update
If you've been meaning to post your finished pictures of Kazak or Mood over on the March knit along thread, here's a tiny reminder that you should do it soon. There's also still time to cast on Heriz or Afshari for April's knit along. There will be a new thread for May's knit along soon. So just in case you haven't committed all of the names to memory, that works out to be: Post finished pictures of these over here by the end of the month. And cast these on before the end of the month and talk about them [...]
One Of The Good Bits
Writing knitting patterns is an odd sort of undertaking. It's mostly marvelous, but it (like any other job) has its less than glorious moments. But now? Now I'm smack dab in the middle of one of the very best bits. The yarn for book two is coming in, and damn is it shiny! I feel bad for the postman. He must be getting tired of me accosting him each afternoon to see what new goodies he's brought me. There is quite a bit more to come (a few more greens, a wee bit of pink, and dash of orange), but [...]
What I Did On My Summer Vacation
Or rather, what I will be doing. Just in case you were in some sort of internet-less bubble yesterday, I feel it is my duty to remind you that there was a rather substantial update to the Sock Summit website. The teacher list, class list, and class schedule all went up. And no, registration is not open yet. But you can now spend an truly unreasonable amount of time reading over all the class descriptions and coming up with 14 different variations of your preferred class list. Not that that's what I did last night or anything. The vendor list [...]
Better Than A Life of Crime
Cooperative Press (they published my book and are just about to release Heather's book) are trying out some alternative funding sources. Hmmm...that makes it sound rather like they've taken to robbing liquor stores. That's not at all what I mean. What they're doing is much cooler (and, conveniently, totally legal). It seems that big shiny banks don't tend to believe that knitting business are real businesses that can make real money. In an impressive effort to prove them wrong, Cooperative Press set up a kickstarter campaign. It's a great way to fund creative projects, and it's going marvelously well. I [...]
