Good News, Bad News
Good News: It's snowing! We haven't gotten much snow this winter (apparently it's all gone to the east coast), and I've been feeling cheated. Bad News: The snow is making my normal laziness reach absolutely epic portions. All I want to do is start a pot of soup, snuggle up in blankets, drink hot chocolate, watch movies, and knit the day away. Was there someone in your youth and childhood who would occasionally take a shamelessly sanctimonious tone and say 'virtue is its own reward' when you complained about having to do something? Yeah. Apparently I Just Can’t Knit
Yesterday saw the (slightly more vicious than was perhaps strictly necessary) ripping of the two-headed hat. This morning I cast on for the second version. Yesterday's hat used 8 repeats of the stitch pattern. A bit of measuring and swatching and needle swapping had led me to firmly believe I should remove 2 of those repeats. Now just to review, 8-2=6. I Really Should Know Better
You know that little feeling...that subtle nagging feeling that says 'that might not be quite the right size?' Yeah. I should really learn to listen to that feeling. The hat I was working on? Congratulations to Linda who won the yarn, and thank you to everyone for your lovely comments. I, personally, do not believe in the black/gray/navy winter coat. I feel if I have to wear a coat, it had better be bright and colorful. I have a pale blue light weight coat, a red heavy coat, a purple dressy coat, and a green cloak for those rare situations when a cloak really is the correct answer. Testing Call
Another hat and mitt set up for testing over on ravelry. These are going to be called Coruscate (to give off or reflect light in bright beams or flashes, to be brilliant or showy in technique or style). Petiole
Petiole is out! This was my super speedy "it's cold and I have to wear a coat and I don't want to wear a coat...so I'll distract myself with a hat" project. I'm sure that says something unflattering about my mental faculties, but I like the hat, and I didn't freeze to death from refusing to wear a coat, so apparently it worked. Salty Caramel and How to Make It
Over the Christmas holiday we broke in our new ice cream maker. Our first batch was salty caramel ice cream (and damn was it good). We've perfected the salty caramel dance over the last few months.
