Tiny Nonsense

Still Smitten

That leaf is just ridiculously fetching somehow.  It's all of 50 stitches (if that), yet it totally thrills me.  Apparently I am easily entertained.  I'm not sure this speaks well of my ability to count as a fully functional adult with good taste and reasonably good sense, but I'm also not sure I care. Now if only it would warm up to the point where those mitts could actually be worn outside...right now heavier armaments are called for.

Wee Tiny Hat

As you may recall, the other day my friend and I had an unexpectedly long trip to the yarn store.  Her kids were along with us and were absolute darlings.  The oldest wore a jaunty hat for much of the trip.  Given his demonstrated fondness for hats (and my recent infatuation with them), the next step was clear.  I would have to make him a hat. After checking with his mom to be sure that it was ok, I brought over a half dozen or so different yarns and asked him which one he liked best.  He picked out this [...]

A Tiny Favor

I want to ask everyone who has a website of their own to do me a little favor.  Take a moment to read about hotlinking. The very short version is that hotlinking is inappropriately using an image off of someone else's website.  It's not a good thing to do.  It is an easy thing to do accidentally (and with no malicious intent) if you're not all that comfortable with setting up and managing websites.  I happened to notice someone was doing it with one of my pictures yesterday (likely by accident and certainly with no malicious intent).  Since it is [...]

Snippets

I had a really annoying amount of yarn left when I finished the Rochester hat.  It was too much to just toss in the scraps basket (used to be a jar, then it was a vase, now it's moved onto large basket status...something may soon have to be done about that), but it wasn't nearly enough for another hat.  I didn't have another skein (it's Aslan Trends Bariloche in Tango Reds).  I had added it to a Webs order to bring my total up to the magical free shipping/nice shiny discount level.  It was purchased on a whim, and I [...]

Home Safe

Thursday afternoon, as I was planning for our trip, I realized it looked like it might be a tiny bit chilly in Rochester.  I decided I would break down and bring my warm coat (I am coat resistant...I put off wearing the heavy ones as long as possible).  I got the notion that it would be a good idea to have a hat.  Somehow it seemed that a new hat would soften the blow of having to wear a coat.  Now you may recall I had already made myself one hat, but it goes with my light coat, not my [...]

Missing in Action

Upon hearing of my current hat phase, my dad graciously offered up his head for swathing in woolly goodness.  We talked about head sizes, yarn colors, and hat styles.  A hat was planned and executed.  I bound it off the other night.  The next morning, I washed it, shaped it, and set it out to dry. Around these parts, hats get dried over the heating vent in our kitchen.  Most of our heating vents are giant cookie sheet sized affairs in the walls, but the one in the kitchen happens to be on the floor.  If you put a wet [...]

A Simple Plan

The plan was simple.  The plan was actually kind of awesome.  A friend was doing some Christmas shopping.  She wanted to get someone on her list all of the things one might need to start knitting socks.  Well now, that's totally the sort of thing I can help with.  I'm not usually much of a shopper.  I tend to do most of my shopping online, and I can't remember the last time I went to the mall.  But there's a nice big exception for yarn shopping.  That is scads of fun and is best done in person. Plans were made.  [...]

Learning from my Mistakes

So a while back I casually mentioned, late on a Friday evening, that we were heading off to Pittsburgh the next day.  I asked for yarn store recommendations.  You guys were kind enough to provide them.  Then, in a fit of truly brilliant work, I didn't have a chance to check your helpful comments the next day because we were actually in Pittsburgh and my internet access was not what one might have hoped for.  It was not my most impressive move.  But, I am capable of learning from my mistakes, so I'm trying this with a bit more advance [...]
