Futile
Resistance is futile I tell you, futile. I tried. I really did. I gave myself lectures on fiscal responsibility and practicality and not buying things I don't really need and general all around adult type behavior. Then I succumbed to temptation and bought it anyways. How could I not...the awesomeness was overwhelming. I'll call it supplies for my upcoming knitting-centered excursions. Not only did I feel moved to buy it, but I feel compelled to tell you that you too can get one right here. (And now I also feel bound to tell you that this is not my picture, [...]
Tidings
Two quick bits of news, with more substantive stuff to follow along shortly. First, and quite thrilling, I got a spot in the Silk Retreat just announced by Madam Harlot and Tina of BMFA fame. I predict it will be splendid. There really is no room for doubt. Second, I will be releasing Diluvian a bit earlier than expected. I had planned to bring them out in early June, but I want to enter them in the sock design contest over at Exercise Before Knitting, and the deadline is approaching. They'll be going up as soon as I can get [...]
Proof
Proof I'm here, proof I'm knitting, and (alas) proof that my yard is a bit shaggy. These are made with the lovely Hedonist Sock, which is a marvelous merino cashmere nylon mix. I've used this blend of materials before (in Brigid, Graupel, and Slant) and always enjoy it. It's very comfortable to work with and seems to hold up well even after repeated washings. The blend does pose just a bit of a challenge to design with though. It tends to be...soft. I don't mean soft to the touch (though it certainly is that), but soft as in the opposite [...]
S’mores
There's a new project on the needles, and for once it's not a secret. I'm making socks with Slackford Studio's lovely Hedonist yarn, and I'm free to blab about them all I want. I just seem to be unable to remember to get a picture. It's rather hard to say much about a sock without a picture to back it up. Rest assured that they are underway (I've just started the heel flap) and that they will be making an appearance soon. The weather here has been suspiciously perfect, and these socks have been knit largely on the patio. Every [...]
Brigid
So back in February (snowy, gray, dreary February, was it really only three months ago) I indulged my natural tendency to be a shameless tease. I showed off a few pics of a sock I designed for Gaia’s Colours Sacred Sabbats Yarn Club. It was exclusive to the club until yesterday, but now it's available to everyone. These are...well...these are totally inappropriate for Spring. They're all about Winter and fire and warmth and comfort and toughing out the last bit of cold weather. But, no matter how unlikely it seems at the moment, Winter will eventually come again. These sunny [...]
Scatterling
As promised, the newest pattern is up! Actually, calling them new might be a tiny bit of a fib. Remember the socks I made for my grandfather's birthday back in November? These are a slightly remixed version of those (making them one of about three patterns I've been able to knit twice). I've managed to (more or less) keep quiet about them over the last few months. They did make one quick appearance when we went to Hershey, PA for New Year's Eve (they're chocolate colored after all), but they've otherwise stayed hidden away. I'm unreasonably pleased with them. They're [...]
Diluvian
When I was a kid I found watching raindrops on the windows of a car absolutely hypnotic. I was convinced they were holding raindrop races. I worked out a whole series of rules and victory conditions and stories for the individual drops. We'll just say I had a rich inner life and leave it at that. From the first minute I cast these on, the combination of color and pattern reminded me of my raindrop races. I find these almost as hypnotic. I'll get a proper picture with feet some time soon, but I had to show these off now.
Winners
I've sent email to the drawing winners. At least I think I have. I've recently been inundated by a string of hard-to-detect spam comments. I think my spam filter has caught all of them, and it looks very much like the winners are real people, but there is always the chance that something has gone awry. So check your inboxes. I'll give the winners a week to email me back with their mailing addresses. If I haven't heard from them by then, I'll draw more winners. There will be a new pattern coming out at Knit Circus at the end [...]
Ignominy
Every now and then I get these fits (and those who have seen them will testify that 'fits' is really the best word) where I have to get rid of stuff. Blame my peripatetic childhood, blame years spent in tiny apartments, blame the stars. Sometimes I just must.throw.things.away.right.now. It works for us. It lets us live in a smaller-than-average house and still have plenty of space. I was in the middle of one of these fits the other day, and my attention fell on my craft closet. I have recently realized that I just don't care for spinning. Heresy, I [...]
