Good Enough to Rip
I hate ripping. Loathe it. I will generally avoid it at all costs. Not this time. These were worth ripping to make them perfect. Yes, it was just one gusset. Yes it was a tiny fix (shifting the location of the line of gusset decreases if you want to know). But damn was it worth it. Shots that show the bigger picture soon. It's still at that state where it looks funny to the outside world, but I'm confident they'll be nifty. Call it sock adolescence. Makes for awkward photos.
Really Good
If you're really good, your needles match your plants. I find it unreasonably amusing. Just playing with this right now, but I think it has potential. Loving the yarn, more about it soon.
Imagine
So I apparently really need to paint my back stairs. Until I do, we'll just have to pretend they make a fetching backdrop for sock pictures. As for the socks themselves, they're not quite this pink in real life. The sun was setting and the light was a bit funny. I'm not cool enough to correct it. Imagine them a wee bit more purple. You can also try and imagine what my neighbor thought when she came outside to mow her lawn and found me, sitting on the porch in a pajama shirt and jeans, feet held at an unnatural [...]
Diluvian
Diluvian are ready to go. Alas, it's suddenly turned far too hot for wool socks. I feel somehow cheated. I'm still rather taken with them though, even if I won't be wearing them for a few more months. I never did quite decide if I like them right side out (above) or wrong side out (below). Did you?
Futile
Resistance is futile I tell you, futile. I tried. I really did. I gave myself lectures on fiscal responsibility and practicality and not buying things I don't really need and general all around adult type behavior. Then I succumbed to temptation and bought it anyways. How could I not...the awesomeness was overwhelming. I'll call it supplies for my upcoming knitting-centered excursions. Not only did I feel moved to buy it, but I feel compelled to tell you that you too can get one right here. (And now I also feel bound to tell you that this is not my picture, [...]
Tidings
Two quick bits of news, with more substantive stuff to follow along shortly. First, and quite thrilling, I got a spot in the Silk Retreat just announced by Madam Harlot and Tina of BMFA fame. I predict it will be splendid. There really is no room for doubt. Second, I will be releasing Diluvian a bit earlier than expected. I had planned to bring them out in early June, but I want to enter them in the sock design contest over at Exercise Before Knitting, and the deadline is approaching. They'll be going up as soon as I can get [...]
Proof
Proof I'm here, proof I'm knitting, and (alas) proof that my yard is a bit shaggy. These are made with the lovely Hedonist Sock, which is a marvelous merino cashmere nylon mix. I've used this blend of materials before (in Brigid, Graupel, and Slant) and always enjoy it. It's very comfortable to work with and seems to hold up well even after repeated washings. The blend does pose just a bit of a challenge to design with though. It tends to be...soft. I don't mean soft to the touch (though it certainly is that), but soft as in the opposite [...]
S’mores
There's a new project on the needles, and for once it's not a secret. I'm making socks with Slackford Studio's lovely Hedonist yarn, and I'm free to blab about them all I want. I just seem to be unable to remember to get a picture. It's rather hard to say much about a sock without a picture to back it up. Rest assured that they are underway (I've just started the heel flap) and that they will be making an appearance soon. The weather here has been suspiciously perfect, and these socks have been knit largely on the patio. Every [...]
Brigid
So back in February (snowy, gray, dreary February, was it really only three months ago) I indulged my natural tendency to be a shameless tease. I showed off a few pics of a sock I designed for Gaia’s Colours Sacred Sabbats Yarn Club. It was exclusive to the club until yesterday, but now it's available to everyone. These are...well...these are totally inappropriate for Spring. They're all about Winter and fire and warmth and comfort and toughing out the last bit of cold weather. But, no matter how unlikely it seems at the moment, Winter will eventually come again. These sunny [...]
