I went to Fiber Frolic! It was last minute, but the weather was perfect (translation: cold and rainy), and it's just up the road, so I figured I'd go and see if anything grabbed me. And apparently I'm feeling this pinky/purpley/orangey vibe right now. I am, I assure you, as surprised as anyone. But here we are. Grumble grumble grumble. This is Quite Close to being what I want, but that light purple floof isn't quite right. I need a darker floor, for reasons that will become apparent in time. So this will work as proof of concept (because oh, oh I can see what's happening well enough to realize it's worth ripping it out and doing it right), and I'll be able to keep the turned brim, but everything above the brim needs a quick rip and redo. Yarn ramen pile incoming...

Um. You knew the fiddly part part was coming, right? You've been here long enough to know I wasn't actually just going to leave well enough alone. Oh no. There needs to be something fancy going on...

If you're going to insist on knitting seven miles of boring stockinette, you can at least make it all tidy at the end, right? Right. Bonus points to everyone who suggested doing turned hems with judy's magic cast on (rather than with a provisional cast on you have to unzip and pick up). It is, indeed, significantly less fiddly. And while I don't necessarily mind fiddly, I do want it to be for a good reason. If I can get the same effect with something more streamlined, that's generally gonna be the way to go!

My brain has informed me that it...it wants to just go around and around and around for a while and not really do anything else just now. So I mean fine, I'm a knitter. I can make that happen. I mean not for too long, but for a little while it might be ok...

Ahem. You can absolutely work the fancy bit with a contrast color. Just in case that's something you might ever find yourself wanting to do. This is a swatch for the new version of Constellate that should be out late this summer. You'll be seeing more of it as we get a bit closer, but for now, I'll just say that if you happen to get your hands on some long slow color change yarn (this is one of Seven Sisters Arts' color wheels) between now and then, you'll be able to do some magic tricks with it!
