Insufficient

According to the little weather gizmo on my shelf, it's 14 degrees outside.  This is an entirely insufficient number of degrees.  I do not love you enough to go outside in that, much less to drag poor Verity out to stand in the snow (even if I would drape her in wool first).  So instead you're getting  a picture of this taken in my office. Now you'll note my office has dark red walls (um, also books, books and hand forms and jars of needles).  And you may also have noticed that it's January, and the yarn is dark.  So [...]

Continued Improvement

The Blue Thing of Blueness continues to amuse me (and to be very very blue).  The edges are doing this marvelously structured flip. And the body of it is behaving perfectly (by which I mean 'doing what I wanted it to do, and looking good while doing it'). As predicted, I think I'll be done with it any second now.  At which point, I'll take some photos that show it off a bit better (I get that it's in that crumpled stage where its charms may be lost on anyone not actually petting it).  But I may very well miss [...]

Vivid

So the most recent hat and mitts are done (and I'm in the middle of working on the pattern, don't worry).  And the devious plan for the unreasonably interesting swatches has gotten a green light from the dyer, but we have to wait just a bit for all the lovely yarn to happen.  Which leaves me needing something on my needles to fill the time between. So, with not much of a plan in mind, I sort of dumped the stash out on the floor of my office (one of the benefits of having a small stash is you can [...]

Options

The more I knit, the more I find myself interested in options.  I almost never knit something without thinking 'hmmm, I could do it this way, or I could do it this way, or maybe I could try this other thing' and wanting to more or less do them all. Now often, this is a bit impractical.  Eventually I just have to settle down and knit the thing.  And if I'm writing a pattern (which I do for almost everything I knit), I don't feel good giving you options for variations I'm not showing you pictures of.  Doing that would [...]

Still Entranced

So the cowl now has a friend! Or rather, the partial cowl has a friend. You see, I want the cowl to be as long as possible, but I also want a hat and mitts, so I'm holding off on finishing the cowl until I've finished the others, just so I can use all the yarn. I'm really rather taken with it.  I used the same stitch as in the cowl and made a band to go around my head then tapered it down to a point.  Then I picked up stitches on one side (evenly adding in as many [...]

Entranced

I swear it was supposed to be a swatch.  A quick, simple little swatch to see if I liked the way that stitch and that yarn played together.  Turns out, I do. So now the swatch is just about to reach cowl length (though admitedly, I like the sort of cowls that are just short scarves held on with a button...feels more efficient than making a giant scarf and just leaving it dangling in the breeze).  And I have plans for a hat to match.  And I may possibly have ordered one more skein from the UK (all I can [...]

Success

We had the photo shoot.  I remembered to bring both the camera and all the knitting.  No one died of heat stroke.  We did not get arrested (opinions vary on whether we were, strictly speaking, allowed to be in that building at that time).  All in all, the day was a rousing success.  Oh, and we got good pictures too!  These are just a few of the favorites of the moment.  There are lots more to be seen later. Stacks

I feel a tiny bit bad that it's been so long since I've put out a pattern.  The last one was Chamfer in what, February?  Now to be fair, the e version of The Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet did go live in March, so it's not like you've not got something to keep your needles busy.  But still, I'm used to putting out an individual pattern every month or so, and the longer time frame is making me a bit twitchy.  But never fear, it's all in the service of a bigger project! After seeing how much fun Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet [...]

One Down

The Tumult cowl is off the needles and blocked.  I finished it up on the drive home from Maryland Sheep & Wool.  It's lovely and light and lacy.  It will look splendid on an actual human.  It looks less than splendid when laying on my back porch railing.  Alas, I'm not skilled enough (or perhaps it's brave enough) to take a picture of it on myself.  You'll have to make do with this for now.  I promise pretty pics when I next get a willing victim to play model!
