Hideously Immodest
Guys, I'm going to be a total brat for a second. I was going to just come on here and say 'hey, Curls is finally finally finally in stock on amazon...if you've been waiting for it over there, go grab it.' And I'm still going to say that. But I'm also going to do this deeply, alarmingly immodest thing. You see that wee orange banner? It says number one in knitting. And when last I visited the page, it seems like it's number one in needlework too. And you've been leaving lovely reviews. All that for a book that came [...]
Scattershot
Well, that was a bracing few days. Most of those copies of Curls have gone off to new homes in lovely yarn stores (and yes, you can totally ask your favorite store to get in touch, I'd love to send it their way, too). The porch has looked a little something like this for the last few days. But never fear, we'll be back to yarn-y goodness next week! In fact, Tuesday will see the release of the lovely brown boy socks you watched me make earlier this winter. We took the photos for them when we were in Charleston, [...]
Cerise, Second Curls KAL
We're doing knitalongs for the patterns in Curls, and it's time for the second pattern in the book, Cerise. Now, I’m also a big fan of relaxed knitalongs. I am not a fan of stress or hard deadlines, so we’re going to make this easy. All the details for this one are over the KAL thread in my ravelry group. But the gist is knit this pattern over the next two months, show it off and talk about it in that thread, and some time after the KAL ends I’ll send someone who posted a picture of a finished project [...]
Make me a Map
Those of you who have the electronic version of Curls have already seen the little bonus in there. Many of the patterns sport a special little symbol that, when clicked, takes you over to a stitch map for that pattern. Stitch maps (the latest creation by super genius JC Briar) are a new way to think about charts. They're charts without the grids. But more than that, they're charts that show you the relationship between stitches in a much more concrete way than traditional charts tend to. The easiest way to understand it is just to show you an example. [...]
Sampler
I've mentioned I like my job, right? Because I really do like my job. Part of that is because I get to spend all day in my pajamas by myself and only rarely have to talk to actual people face to face. But an even bigger part of it is because I get to work with awesome people on fun projects. One of those awesome people is Anne Hanson (Knitspot mastermind). I mentioned to her that the next Curls book was going to use all gray yarns and asked if I might be able to use one of her Bare [...]
Caesious, First Curls KAL
So, I think we should do a knitalong for the patterns in Curls, don't you? And I'm a fan of doing things in order, so we'll start with the first pattern in the book, Caesious. Now, I'm also a big fan of relaxed knitalongs. I am not a fan of stress or hard deadlines, so we're going to make this easy. All the details for this one are over the KAL thread in my ravelry group. But the gist is knit this pattern over the next two months, show it off and talk about it in that thread, and some time [...]
Accustomed
See that? That little line there that says second printing? A girl could get used to that... I bet I could get used to one that said third printing too (I'm adaptable like that). Just by way of explanation, that's one of the advance copies from the second printing. The printer sends a few early to make sure nothing has gone excitingly wrong in some sort of new and unexpected way. The bulk of them are on a boat (said boat going to the east coast, not the west coast, to avoid the fun drama we had last time). They'll [...]
Industrious
This is what things have looked like around for the last little while. That's what it looks like when you set out more than 500 envelopes for the postman in one day (don't worry, I told them they were coming, and I helped load the truck). Do that for a few days, and all of a sudden all of the books are mailed. Everything should be on the way, and we should be back to the normal shipping schedule (things going out within one or two business days of your order). You guys are awesome for being so excited about [...]
Shipping Update
So we're in one of those good news/bad news spots. The good news is that I've shipped hundreds and hundreds of books, and lots of folks have started to receive them (and I've even spotted a few finished curls popping up on ravelry). That is so much fun to see! Now for the bad news. Remember back in November, just before the preorder, when I said "A pile of books are on their way to me via UPS and are due to arrive early next week. The rest of them are on a boat and are due to arrive early [...]
