Tiny Nonsense

Smitten

I'm rather taken with these.   I worried at first that the yarn would be too busy for the pattern, but I think it's working out.  The stitch pattern is sort of magical...super stretchy (looks much better once it's on a leg and under a bit more tension), works up quickly, and easy to just read your knitting and see what comes next.  Now...would someone like to come finish them up for me so I can hurry up and wear them?

Proof of Concept

You know that your friends have accepted that you do the whole blog thing when they send you shots of your knitting in action, complete with disclaimer saying it's ok to use them on the site.  Isn't living in the future cool?  Digital cameras and email and blogs and countless other bits of impressive technology all working seamlessly together in the service of knitting.  The world is looking up. Fingers crossed it helps keep their coffee hot long enough to drink it!  They've got two energetic kiddos, so I'm sure the caffeine comes in handy. And you guys totally rock.  [...]

Festoon

So...you guys like the tiny hats.  First, I feel it necessary to tell you that you can totally make these up on your own.  Really you can, I have total confidence in you.  But lots of folks sent me messages asking how to do it, so I went ahead and wrote up the pattern.  Well, first I made three more hats, and then I wrote up the pattern giving instructions for all seven variations.  But, I'd feel a little bit shady taking money for something so tiny, so I've decided that all the proceeds from the sale of this pattern [...]

Cozy

I don't generally fall prey to the cozy craze.  My teapot goes about scandalously unclothed, as does my toilet paper, my coffee cup, and a surprisingly number of other things in this house.  I've not yet suffered any noticeable ill effects from this tendency to dishabille, but then I like to live dangerously. Which is why I was rather surprised when I found myself knitting a wrapper (perhaps if I call it that it won't seem so cozy-like) for a friend's french press.  But it seems their coffee sometimes gets cold before they finish it, and they were amused by [...]

I May Have a Problem

So the ornaments?  The ornaments that seem to be the knitting equivalent of crack?  They are teeny tiny hats.  Hats that eggs would wear if eggs were inclined to wear hats.  And they are so flipping cute I may just die.  Do you want to die of an overdose of cute too?  I thought so. Ridiculously cute.  Ridiculously easy to knit.  More or less the speediest thing ever.  Next up...likely mittens.  These have to go in the mail Monday, so I can't make millions of them, but I think a mitten or two would round things out nicely.  You want [...]

Potato Chips

To make sense of my morning, you need to know two things. First, I do not relish the thought of going to the dentist.  I have a lovely dentist...skilled, accommodating, and handy with the prescription pad.  But still, it is not my favorite place to go.  Second, my friends have awesome children.  I'm not normally a big fan of kids.  Children as a class are known to be sticky, noisy, and a bit pungent.  But not the children of my friends.  They are all paragons of virtue, charming conversationalists, and very rarely sticky. Now you might not think that these [...]

Warm and Spiky

Two bits of good news! First, the nice man from the gas company's repair service showed up bright and early Monday morning.  He looked at our furnace (an admittedly elderly piece of machinery), took a panel off, wiggled a few wires, pushed a button, and boom...heat.  I felt rather like an ass for not knowing to do this myself.  But I was a warm ass, so I didn't care for long.  And I had remembered that we had the furnace repair program and called them instead of calling the regular repair company (who charge $80 to ring the doorbell and [...]

The Stars Did Not Align

We're actually pretty good at the short trip thing.  We don't overpack (for one or two nights we just share a super tiny rolling bag).  We understand the importance of snacks.  We have the music situation well under control.  I know all about the care and feeding of car knitting.  We have a system.  Usually, it just sort of works.  But this weekend...this weekend we never quite found our groove. It started when we woke up on Saturday and found the furnace had given up the ghost.  We have a service plan through our gas company, so we called them [...]

Less Than Stellar

You know what is not a fun way to begin your morning?  With the realization that your furnace is no longer blowing warm air...is instead blowing icy cold air.  This is absolutely not good.  It significantly alters your plans for the day.  I am displeased.
