Tiny Nonsense

Now We Are Three

Three years ago, I sat up way too late throwing together a quick website.  The goal of the site was to provide a convenient place to host a little free pattern for a pair of socks I'd whipped up.  I liked the socks, and I thought a few other folks might like them too.  I had enjoyed writing the pattern, and I thought I might want a space to share any other patterns that happened to occur to me.  I didn't think I'd do it often. Two years ago, I had just signed a book contract and was up to [...]

Hooky, Part II

When last I left you, I'd been grudgingly allowed to check into my hotel, despite my scandalous lack of male supervision.  Determined to confirm the desk clerk's low opinion of me, I went right back out a little while later (at night, alone, oh the horrors) and headed to my friend's house.  The rest of the evening will remain cloaked in mystery.  I can't actually describe it and so must leave it to your imagination (though I regret to inform you there were no pillow fights, sorry). There are only few bits of the next day discretion allows me to [...]

Cover

Did I show you the cover?  No, I don't think I did.  Now there's every chance you don't actually care (which would be a totally reasonable way to feel...I likely wouldn't much care if it wasn't my own book), but I'm rather taken with it.  See?  Those yellow socks more or less slay me every time.  You guys seem to like them too. And there's also a back cover of course.  It shows off the purple socks (they wrestle with the yellow ones for the status of my very favorite socks ever...so far it's a tie).   As always, click to [...]

Hooky

When playing hooky, it is best not to have too much of an advance plan.  A certain element of spontaneity is necessary if you're to have the proper atmosphere of indulgence and excess.  That being said, my weekend hooky session did have a few things that needed to be planned.  The Boy needed to be to the airport on time (he was flying off to visit his sister), the Kitten Overlords needed to be fed and watered in our absence, and I needed a place to sleep while I was away.  The rest was fairly freeform. I started by heading [...]

Countdown

So...it's done.  All done (which is why I desperately needed to play hooky this past weekend).  The Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet has gone off to the printer, and the electronic version is ready to go.  I'll be putting it out on Tuesday, March 13. This means that if you've bought the electronic version, or if you've ordered the physical version and gotten the electronic version to go with it, the full version will magically appear in your Ravelry library some time next Tuesday.  When it does, you'll get both a ravelry message and an email letting you know it's been updated. [...]

Well that was Refreshing

I'm a firm believer in the restorative power of playing hooky.  Sometimes it's the only appropriate response to a given situation...or at least sometimes it's the best response to a given situation.  So this weekend, I played hooky.  I ran off to Lansing to spend the weekend with some old friends. I had thought I would tell you all about it, but it turns out that it's hard to describe a bunch of grown women dissolving into fits of helpless giggles over the most ridiculous of in jokes.  I tried, it just loses something in the translation.  Suffice it to [...]

Back Soon

Sorry for the radio silence.  I ran away from home and blithely shirked all adult responsibility for the weekend. The good news  is that this means I'll have plenty to tell you about once I'm back to being a grown up next week.  Until then, I highly recommend the shirking and suggest you consider it from time to time too.

The Only One?

Am I the only one who has found themselves brushing their teeth into the shower because there's something soaking in the sink and the thought of taking it out and dealing with it properly is just too overwhelming to contemplate before bed?  Because if I am the only one, then I have reached a new and unprecedented level of laziness.  And if I'm not, it's reassuring to know there are others of my kind out there.

Naughty Designer

What I really really should knit?  The last few rows of the cowl.  It's achingly close to done. What I have been knitting?  Swatches.  For you see, I have this plan...this plan for a hat...this plan for a hat that will be either the cutest or the ugliest thing you ever did see.  Only time (and more swatching) will tell. But first...I must finish this cowl.  I get to see some friends this weekend and I think I will be able to sweet talk one or two of them into modeling it for me!
