Magic trick
Either you already know this, or you're going to be mad no one told you sooner. You know how there are a bunch of different directions for left- and right-leaning decreases, and twisted left- and right-leaning decreases, and left- and right-leaning decreases on the wrong side, and twisted left- and right-leaning decreases on the wrong side? And how it's hard to keep them all straight? And how they're different if you mount your stitches differently? Yeah. You don't ever ever ever need to think of them again. You just need to know one thing: Whichever stitch your needle goes into [...]
Thunk
You know you want it. I know you want it. Everyone wants to grab one of these and go ‘pinch pinch pinch’ and listen to the clasp go ‘thunk thunk thunk.’ Don’t worry, it’s perfectly normal. Everyone feels that way sometimes. If you wish to indulge this base desire, the pattern is called Clasped and you can be thunk thunk thunking away in a day or two. Or you can continue on in noble self restraint and deny yourself the unspeakable satisfaction of a good thunk. I’ll be over here thunking.
Dalliance
I told you there would be further dalliances. These things happen. At least to me. When left unattended. Around soft things. And shiny things. And stabby things. Really this is a failure of supervision more than anything else and can hardly be held accountable for that.
Improvements!
I told you we'd find a better bead/yarn combo. This is as of yet unblocked (the slightly wibbly bead will be gently nudged into place when I block them), but I can already tell I'm going to love it.
Raidal
There seems, near as I can tell, to just be a button in my brain that squirts out a little dose of the happy brain chemicals whenever it sees something with radial symmetry. Hat crowns. Paper stars. Straw stars. And, apparently, embroidery. These were both things I worked on at the Camden public library embroidery class (libraries are awesome), and I suspect I'll end up with a little pile of them before the fascination fades. No idea what I'll do with them mind you, but that's less important than the time spent enjoying them. Go check out your [...]
Questionable Nonsense
I do a bit of housekeeping every month (to remind folks what’s about to rotate off patreon and to show off what’s coming next), and to keep those posts from being dreadfully boring, I’m combining them with a monthly advice column/Q&A session (aka an excuse to ask what folks are wondering about and then info dump on some of my favorite topics). I'd asked for your sock questions and have been working through those for the last few months. We did a couple of long form answers on previous posts (like how to make your socks last longer and why [...]
Monthly Reminder
Look, I get it. I do. It's a LOT to keep track of. EVERYTHING is a LOT to keep track of. So it's ok, you don't have to keep track of it all. You just need to find a couple of good resources, Stick Them In Your Information Pipeline, then interact with them when the come across your feed so you'll see more of them. No really, it works. It works really really well. As long as you do that 'interact with them' bit. Here are some of the places I follow on instagram to keep up with abortion info: [...]
Xanthophyll
Ok so the plan had been to put this out like a regular pattern. But then my sock model ended up with a schedule conflict. And normally I'd just wait and bring it out later, but patience is Not My Strong Suit Right Now. So we'll compromise! This one will be free to anyone on patreon (yes, even the free patreon memberships) until I manage to get out and get photos with real feet in them (don't worry, you'll get an update when I get new pics). Do I know when that will be? Nope! It involves coordinating the schedules of [...]
Alas not these
So yes, the urchin does need beads. But this particular urchin did not need these particular beads. So it is destined to be ripped so that both the yarn and the beads can go on to happier fates. Wanna watch?
