Tiny Nonsense

Halfway

Ok so think of this as a halfway point between crumpled heap and properly blocked. This is just shoved onto a foot form (they're called lasts, they're what they used to make shoes around, they're damn handy for blocking slippers), but not actually off the needles or subjected to the indignities of an hour or so in a bowl of water. This is just because I couldn't bear to leave the other pic as your last sight of the slipper for a while, crumpled as it was, so I needed to give it a slightly more structured view. Just in [...]

Foot-ish

Those of you who said slipper are absolutely correct. Those of you concerned that this looks like a crumpled heap of bad ideas and dashed dreams are also correct. But blocking fixed a multitude of sins. And every slipper I've ever made looks real damn funny at this point in the proceedings. And then you shove something foot-ish in there, and it springs into shape, and all your doubts are assuaged. At least all of the slipper-based doubts. I'm not really qualified to handle any larger concerns. But I can confidently say this will look more like a slipper and [...]

Counting rows

So I'm working on a thing with cables every eight rows, which means I often find myself thinking huh, is it time to do the next cable yet? But counting rows on cables can be...not immediately obvious. But don't worry, there's a trick to it. As usual, the thing to do is...learn to look at your fabric. I know. I know! It's annoying. But it's the way you actually start to understand what's going on, so it's pretty much always going to be the answer. Ok, so, cables happen when you yoink one set of stitches over across some neighboring [...]

Monthly Reminder

It's been two years since the Supreme Court reminded everyone that you don't have bodily autonomy if you get pregnant. Since then, many states have made it had or impossible to get an abortion, others are doing the same, and yes, some are trying to restrict birth control and fertility treatments, too. Despite the barrage of new restrictions, the number of abortions actually went up in 2023 (by ~11% as compared to 2020). This is at least partly due to the increased availability of and awareness about abortion pills by mail. Abortion pills give people back some of the autonomy [...]

Next round

This...this is what's happening with the next skirt. Solid for the waist and pocket bits, wee pattern part for the rest of it. In theory, it's about two or three sewing sessions (the nebulous time frame that encompasses 'how long I can work on this before I get bored and/or sore and need to put it away). This might happen over two or three days, or it might happen over weeks or months, depending on how badly I want to wear it and how hectic the rest of life is.
