Another very spiffy swatch
Make that Two Very Spiffy Swatches. Because really, there's no reason you have to keep those fancy stitches marching along in lock step, neatly regulated by ribbing. You absolutely can work them on stockinette and offset them instead. And nothing bad happens. You might, in face, find that something awfully nifty happens.
Spooky Knits Season
Miss Fizzy would like me to remind you we are now firmly in spooky knits season, and that she has you covered, should you have a black cat you'd like to irritate by attempting to make them wear a hat. Bonus shot of her two years when she was just a few months old and freshly introduced to the indignity of being a cat in a knitter's household, just in case you needed an aching reminder of the inexorable march of time. The hat is called Ensorcellment, though I can't in good conscience recommend inflicting it on unsuspecting critters.
The indecisive
See, the problem is that brioche just always looks spiffy on both sides. It makes things hard for the indecisive among us (me, I am the indecisive among us and am completely unable to pick a favorite side). There's also that thing where you can make tiny changes and it'll look wildly different, and that other thing where brioche feels super fast when it's on the needles, and that other other thing where these are tiny. All of which means I might be about to knit, um, several. We'll go with several. Several vague enough to remain accurate, no matter [...]
Indiscretion
Ooops. I may have committed a small indiscretion. Just a little one. Very small. Of no consequence. These things happen to the best of us. There is no need to be concerned. All will be well.
Amused
Remember how I told you the wee tiny needlebook needed an option to have pages in it? Yeeeeeeeah. So that's totally going to be a thing now. I shouldn't be, but I remain unspeakably amused.
Arcane Bargain
Ahem. Why yes, yes that is rather charming. Bonus points for being the Exact Same Colors as the hydrangeas in my yard. Because clearly Seven Sisters Arts made some sort of arcane bargain with the fairies at some point and now knows the secret to all the best colors. (Yes, it'll be out shortly! Likely that second full week in September, if we ever manage to get a day where the weather lets me get outside and get photos of them. I've got a Whole Big Stack of pieces to photograph for this one, but it needs to stop [...]
A very spiffy swatch
I may just possibly have indulged in a Very Spiffy Swatch. I mean mostly because it's just pretty, but at least partially so I can take some sort of official instructive photos for 'this is what it looks like with one color, this is what it looks like with two, oh and here's how it looks on the back.' Because that was going to be easier to do with a nice tidy little bit of magic I can flip around and point at.
Cables are sneaky
Cables? Cables are gorgeous but sneaky! They will shrink your fabric. There's a video version of this over here, should you wish to watch me flop them around and point to things and listen to me talk. Now, admittedly this is a particularly dramatic example! (The cabled panel and the ribbed panel are the same number of stitches, but the ribbed one is nearly twice as wide.) But all cables will shrink your fabric at least a little. The bigger the cables and the more densely they're packed, the more they'll shrink your fabric. So a four by four cable [...]
August Housekeeping
August's housekeeping post is up. This month is cranberry nut bread. I use the word 'bread' here because then it's more acceptable to spread butter on it and have it for breakfast, though 'cake' might be a more accurate term if we were going for unsparing moral accounting of our deeds. But hey it works for the muffin/cupcake dichotomy, so why not. Details on the snack I am most likely to offer you if you show up at my house on short notice, plus what's coming and going on patreon over the next few weeks are all in the post [...]
