You are all delightful!
Thanks so much to everyone who bid on or shared the fundraisers over on instagram. Thanks to your help and generosity, we raised $1,617.19 (that's bids, less paypal and postage fees)! I've rounded it up to make it easy to divide in half, and sent half off to the Equal Justice Initiative: And half off to Black Lives Matter: And yeah, I blanked out my email address/confirmation numbers/last 4 of my credit card…we’re friends and all, but we need to have some boundaries! Oh and someone will get worried that it says Morgan, but that’s my first name (so that’s [...]
Proclivity
That thing? That thing where you're kind of tired or overwhelmed or maybe just a little blue? And you want to knit because knitting makes you feel better? But you also know that you really need some rather mellow knitting because this is Just Not The Time for anything challenging? Yeah. That thing. I've been feeling that thing for quite some time now. And this? This is Proclivity, and it was just what I needed. I'm not even going to pretend it's hard. Or fancy. Or complicated. Because it's none of those things. Instead it's very very very chill. Now [...]
Fundraiser, Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet books
Last week I sold six of the pieces from the Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet books for Black Lives Matter and the Equal Justice Initiative. Today, to finish the sale off, I'm listing a set of the books themselves. The paper versions have been out of print for years. I get emails every now and then from folks who are just itching to track down paper copies (it seems lots of you share my fondness for paper books over electronic ones) or who are outright scandalized at what used versions sell for on amazon (I don't actually have any control over what [...]
Swapped
For anyone following along at home, you'll notice I swapped the colors between the hat and the mitt. The hat had wide pink stripes, the mitt has wide green stripes (or yellow...there seem to be some strong feelings about whether that's yellow or green or something between). I did it mostly because the mitt won't be reversible (the thumb I want to do doesn't look as cute inside out, and mitts have a few too many ends to ever be really tidy inside out). And I figured if I made the mitt exactly the same as the hat, it would [...]
Reasonable
The only reasonable response to finishing a hat is to cast on some mitts. At least that seems to be the theory I work under (and somehow the hat always comes first, never the other way around). So of course upon completion of the stripey bit of magic, I did this. Not even sorry. And yes, yes that thumb is going to be a thing of wonder and delight. Not sorry about that either!
It grew
The hat grew while you weren't looking. Or rather, it grew while I was knitting on it and talking about other things. It continues to be lovely on either side, and the most difficult thing about it continues to be deciding which side to have face out. This is clearly best solved by folding up the brim so both sides show! Pattern should (barring any exciting catastrophes...and it's 2020 so exciting catastrophes seem like a real possibility) be out on Tuesday. Do the mailing list thing if you want me to pester you when it's out!
Fundraiser, Polypodium vulgare and Metopsilus porcellus Cowls
I'm selling pieces from the Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet books to raise money for Black Lives Matter and the Equal Justice Initiative. Today I'm listing the Polypodium vulgare cowl from The Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet, Volume I and the Metopsilus porcellus cowl from The Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet, Volume III. These both absolutely glow. They're both from 50/50 merino silk yarns, and I swear everyone looks like they've had a good night's sleep with that mix up by their faces. The green one is 21 inches around and 10 inches high and has the most delightful fluted edges. The pink one is 36 [...]
Fundraiser, Erasmia pulchella and Conferva villosa Hats
I'm selling pieces from the Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet books to raise money for Black Lives Matter and the Equal Justice Initiative. Today I'm listing the Erasmia pulchella hat from The Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet, Volume II and the Conferva villosa hat from The Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet, Volume III. These are both delightful. The green one is beautifully textured and just the tiniest bit understated, perfect for anyone who likes to be a bit more subdued (or who hasn't full embraced the joy that is exuberant hand knit hats). The yellow one is so damn cheerful I can hardly stand it (I [...]
Fundraiser, Lycaena virgaureae Shawl
I'm selling pieces from the Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet books to raise money for Black Lives Matter and the Equal Justice Initiative. Today I'm listing the Lycaena virgaureae Shawl from The Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet, Volume II. Now I'll tell you a secret. I always sort of thought that, when the books were done, I'd keep this beauty all for myself. It is exactly my shade of orange (with tiny hints of pink and gold in there to break your heart). The lace is gorgeous. And at about 19 inches tall and 62 inches wide, the whole thing is big enough to feel [...]
