Summer School, party tricks
Now look, I am a fan of fairly sedate socks. Well no, that's not quite right. I'm all about flashy stitch patterns and lovely lines and the occasional bit of arch shaping or gusset shenanigans. But in my heart of heart, my favorite socks are top down (because that means you can try them on after an inch and know for sure if they'll fit over your heel), with a heel flap (we talked about my love of adjustable heel flaps the other week), and a fairly mellow foot. But, there's something about socks that brings out the mad scientist [...]
That quiet grumbling you hear is me
Ahem...so far so good. Clipping happily along. Until... Damn. That tiny white line is a slip I didn't grab quite right a few rows back. And since this is reversible, I can't really just leave it (even though it doesn't show on the other side). And while you can drop stitches back in brioche and fix them, it always feels just a teeny tiny bit daunting. The sort of thing you want to do with good light and while fully awake. It'll be fine after blocking. And it's worth it to actually fix it. But I will grumble while I [...]
A hat in double time
So the only bad thing about the summer school posts is that I can't show off the stuff I'm working on (because I mean yes, I am working on things). If you want the blow by blow, you could always come visit on instagram. Somehow posting a couple of times a day there doesn't seem nearly as obnoxious as posting a couple of times a day on the blog. But just in case that's not your jam, I can also bombard you with things over here, just at an alarmingly quick pace. It would be much more reasonable if we [...]
Summer School, Slippers, Abeyance
On Monday we talked a bit about slippers, and for the rest of the week I’ll be showing off some of my personal favorites. These are Abeyance, they are proof that I can be amused by the smallest of things, and they’re 25% off on ravelry with the code SUMMER SCHOOL through the end of the day, eastern time, Friday July 24. It's all about the loop. No really, these exist entirely because, as I was tugging on my boots, I decided the loop on the back of them was great and I wanted to do a knit version of [...]
Summer School, Slippers, Burgeoning
On Monday we talked a bit about slippers, and for the rest of the week I’ll be showing off some of my personal favorites. These are Burgeoning, they use the same sneaky trick as yesterday, and they’re 25% off on ravelry with the code SUMMER SCHOOL through the end of the day, eastern time, Thursday July 23. No really, this is a fun way to build a slipper (there's a part of me that thinks it would be a fun way to build a sock, but I have so far manged to keep that part of me stuffed in the [...]
Summer School, Slippers, Excursion
On Monday we talked a bit about slippers, and for the rest of the week I’ll be showing off some of my personal favorites. These are Excursion, they use one slightly sneaky trick to great effect, and they’re 25% off on ravelry with the code SUMMER SCHOOL through the end of the day, eastern time, Wednesday July 22. So remember how yesterday's slippers had a heel flap? These don't. Instead these start with Judy's magic cast on at the very back of the heel. Then the whole slipper grows from there, all smooth and organic and in one piece. It's [...]
Summer School, Slippers, Calceiform
On Monday we talked a bit about slippers, and for the rest of the week I’ll be showing off some of my personal favorites. These are Calceiform, they if you've ever knit a sock you can totally knit these, and they’re 25% off on ravelry with the code SUMMER SCHOOL through the end of the day, eastern time, Tuesday July 21. Ok I'll tell you the secret. These are baaaaaaaaasically a top down sock with a heel flap...just with the leg bit left off and the top left open for a while. If you can knit socks, you can knit [...]
Summer School, Slippers
Yeah, fine. Slippers are not socks. But the line between knit slippers and socks gets a bit fuzzy at the edges. And if you're a fan of knitting socks, I suspect you're going to absolutely adore knitting slippers. It's all the same cozy vibe, but with fatter yarn and less surface area to cover, so you're done faster! Now, it's the very middle of summer and I get snarly when it's above about 68 degrees. The world is weird and scary and oh my goodness are instagram and twitter shouty at the moment. And I have aboooout four spare brain [...]
Need a mask?
Half the reason I made these was to have extras to give away when the need arises. So let's give some away! I've put together packages with three masks each (in a random mix of patterns). I'd like to send them off to five different folks. Leave a comment on this instagram post telling me something you're doing to make it easier to wear a mask to be entered to win (yes, I'm mean, you have to do it on instagram, it keeps things more streamlined for me and holy smokes but I need streamlined right now). For me, [...]
