Tonal
I should be displaying impressive industry. There are emails to write, yarns to select, stores to contact, swatches to knit. In short, there are things to do. But I regret to inform you that I will be doing none of those things for the next few minutes. Because there is also this. A rare moment of kitten calm. I'm going to bask in it while it lasts. I'm sure you'll all understand. A moment like this needs to be documented for posterity.
Colophon
The freshly revamped and rereleased pattern for Colophon is now up on ravelry. Pics first, then info, but do read on because I've got yarn to give away too! I know these are simple little bits of knitting, but I admit I'm rather taken with them. They work in any sock or fingering weight yarn and need shockingly little yardage. The sample shown here used 125 yards of Space Cadet Creations' Ester (shown here in a custom club colorway, but if you are looking for a purple, their Plume is smashing and will fill all your purple needs). In addition [...]
Book Yarn, Part I
Someone very graciously pointed out to me I've been remiss in telling you about the yarns I used in the upcoming KCC3. This is a situation I need to remedy as soon as possible, especially since we're only about a month out from the book's debut! So, without further delay, book yarns. These delightful specimens are from the lovely folks at Quince & Co. I first fell in love with Quince & Co yarns when we went to Maine in 2012. I'd seen it online before that, but it was extra delightful in person. I knew I wanted to work [...]
Supplies
My porch looks like this (there's more around the corner). It looks like that because some time in the next few weeks, I will be getting approximately one gazillion copies of KCC3. And then, with any luck, I will be putting those copies into these envelopes and sending them out to you. In the meantime, I think I owe my UPS driver some cookies or something to make up for getting all this delivered in the pouring rain.
Variations on a theme
You know how I've been telling you to block your knits? And showing you how much of a difference it makes? And perhaps you recall that the project I knit most recently was a bit willful when it was on the needles? Right. So you might imagine that this one also benefited greatly from a little relaxing bath. Huge difference, very very little effort. Compared to how much time it takes to knit something, the time to block it is negligible. I'm going to harass you into doing it if I possibly can. (Though i have to say I'm tempted [...]
TNNA
I am typing this from my hotel room in Indianapolis. I'm using 'update the blog' as a fairly shameless excuse to delay leaving my quiet, private hotel room and start walking the noisy, bustling show floor at TNNA. I know I'll have a great time once I actually convince myself to go, but that convincing is taking an extra minute or two this morning. But, the show floor is where the yarn is, and my whole goal in being here is to find yarn for the next book (plus, you know, see all the lovely folks I only see at [...]
Lucent
Ok, important stuff first (but do read to the end, I've got yarn to give away). This is Lucent. It's a marvelous little hat and cuff set. It was a Woolen Rabbit club pattern back in the fall. Ever since it came out, I've had oodles of folks asking when it could be theirs. I don't blame them for being impatient (I've been eager to have this one out in the world too), and I'm delighted to say that the wait is over. The pattern is now available. I adore this set. The starburst is unreasonably fun to knit (and [...]
Soon…
So this happened. That's all the pieces and parts of KCC3, fresh from the printer. When you get a book made, you get lots and lots of packages with various iterations of the project. They all have jobs to do (check the color, make sure the pages are in the right order, make sure nothing goofy has happened). They're all fun to get, but the closer you get to the real thing, the better they are. This one's pretty darn close. All the pieces are there, they just need to be glued together and have the spiffy coating put on [...]
Under the big top, yarn and giveaway
I told you last time that I came home Friday to find a lovely little mood elevator hanging out on my front porch (yarn...fewer side effects than prozac, though it is rather habit forming). And, while I showed you Kitten Overlord Barry chilling in the box it came in, I didn't actually show you the yarn. Let's remedy that, shall we (click to embiggen)? That's a whole lot of yarny love, all from Jaala, mastermind the behind the Knit Circus empire (really, you should be listening to the podcast, it's fabulous). Over on the left you've got three fingering weight [...]
