Bits and Pieces
There is absolutely no coherent theme to my life this week. This means there is very little in the way of cohesion in the blog posts either. Sorry guys, it's that sort of day week life. So, in no particular order: Rabble Rousers is up on amazon now if you happen to feel a terrible itch to buy it there as opposed to from me directly (sometimes it's easier for folks overseas, so I like to have both options for everyone). The marvelous Carol Sulcoski has a review of Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet (plus one to give away) if you're [...]
The Best Laid Plans
Going from 'hmm, well that's an idea' to 'hey, look, a book' is a lengthy process (a fair number of books actually get stuck somewhere in the middle and never make it out of brains and onto paper). There are a lot of interdependent steps and a lot of bits that are infuriatingly out of your own control. That's why I try really hard to build a fair amount of wiggle room into any date I give out publicly. You'll note I normally say 'next year' or 'spring' or just 'later.' It's easier that way. It doesn't disappoint anyone and [...]
Rabble Rousers Giveaway, Take Three
Do you guys mind if I do this giving yarn away thing again? I'm hoping not, because I'm having fun! I've got a skein of Handmaiden Silk Twist to give away. This is the yarn I used for the Tumult cowl in Rabble Rousers. I've loved Handmaiden (and their sister company, Fleece Artist) for just about as long as I've been knitting. They were one of my very first 'grown up' yarn purchases (the stuff that comes from a yarn store instead of from a generic craft store), and theirs are still the yarns I'm most likely to bring home [...]
More or Less a Sock
The weekend saw some serious sock progress. The lonely sock now has about 2/3 of a mate (just down past the gusset). I feel there should be some sort of tasteless joke in there, but I'll leave filling it in as an exercise for the reader. For today, I'll take the opportunity to let Lauren of Ruthie Pearl and Sue of Adlerwood Quilts know they've won the Plucky Knitter yarn (I've emailed both to ask for a mailing address). Now, if I could, I'd send yarn to all of you. I can't, but I can give you patterns. So, from [...]
If I Lie Down, Perhaps it Will Pass
I'm finding myself obsessed with the idea of making about 14 zillion (or, alternately a dozen or so), of the little felt cubes I linked to on the last post. The sort of obsessed where I've taken measurements of my shelves and sourced materials (fancy pants industrial felt that comes in a whole range of thicknesses, and about 3 awesome shades of gray) and made schematics and otherwise gone a wee tiny bit insane. Can someone out there explain any reason this is a terrible idea? Am I overlooking something obvious? Is there some reason this will end in tears? [...]
Nearly Unheard Of
Shocking though it doubtless will be, I've actually done some knitting. Yeah, real live actual knitting. Not swatches, not double checking a fiddly bit for some giant upcoming project (I'm looking at you, next book...I'm looking at you with an evil squinty glare), not aimless yarn petting. Knitting. The sort where you start a project and then put in sustained time and effort and are slowly rewarded with demonstrable progress. I'm thinking I like that series of events. It's the mate to the lonely sock I showed you the other day (cough, week, cough). It's actually a bit taller than [...]
I’ll Be Out Back
People, I love you. Really I do. But just lately, I've had to make a choice. I can spend my evenings at the computer typing reams of trenchant prose. Or I can go outside and do this. And, if forced to pick, well, fire wins. I'm sure you understand. I'll toast a marshmallow in your honor. And if any of you are looking for something to knit while hanging out around your own campfires, the folks over at Knitcircus have a copy of Rabble Rousers to give away if anyone's maybe looking for one!
Lurker
This is my mailbox. And yes, yes the top of it is covered in pollen. The plants are up to all sort of illicit activities and I can't keep it clean from one week to the next. If it offends you, you're welcome to wipe it off. Sweep the porch while you're at it. Imagine my surprise when I opened it to set out some mail and saw this. Interloper! He was (gently and carefully) relocated. I generally take a live and let live approach to critters (at least when we're outside...it's more of a kill them all approach if [...]
Rabble Rousers Yarn Giveaway (yes, more!)
Lots and lots and lots of good stuff to get through today! First, business. This is the last day of the Rabble Rousers preorder. That means the preorder discount ends today, so this is your last chance to get the book (plus a free extra pattern of your choice) at the lower price. Tomorrow the full electronic version goes live. Next up, more yarn to give away. I've got piles of it to go along with the release of Rabble Rousers, and I know you guys are going to love it. Today's lovely prize is the Primo Worsted by The [...]
