Tiny Nonsense

Wee Hats, Part 1 (Not so Wee)

I've learned something.  Five year olds have heads that are more or less the same size as adult humans.  At least some five year olds do.  My secret plan is to go for super stretchy and thus forgiving as to size (and also hopefully thus somewhat long lasting). This is Malabrigo Worsted in Emerald and Frank Ochre.  The colors were somewhat dictated by what was in the stash at the moment.  It was late, I needed a cast on fix right then, (there would be none of this leaving the house and procuring yarn or ordering and waiting for the [...]

All Official Like

Lookie what I got in the mail: That's my lovely spiffy notice from the Copyright Office saying that Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet is all registered and official.  I find it amuses me to no end (though admittedly, I am easily amused).  I'm still tickled that I seem to have  managed to create a real book (however that's defined) while hiding in my office wearing mostly pajamas and supervised by no one save the kittens.  I've even tricked the copyright folks into believing it!

Unheard Of I Tell You

As predicted, 45 minutes of knitting brought about the end of the second sock.  That's two whole socks...all the way down to the toes.  I wouldn't make such a big deal of this, but these are the, um, second pair of socks I've managed to finish this year.  Now that doesn't mean I haven't had socks on the mind (I've spent lots of quality time thinking about all the socks for KCC2), just that I haven't had many socks on the needles.  I rather miss them.  Especially when they come out like these! But, it seems my very next project [...]

Nifty

So that thing?  Where you use sticks to pull loops of yarn through other loops of yarn?  And get a shaped and decorated fabric as a result?  Yeah.  Turns out I like that. I actually found an hour to sit still and do it this weekend.  Amazing I know.  Turns out it makes me happy, and that sitting down and actually doing the knitting is key to making progress on the project. I've got part of a toe left until the second sock is finished.  That means I need about 45 minutes and it will be done.  Chances are, I [...]

Looming

Sorry for the radio silence over the last few days.  I'm finishing up a big stage of the behind-the-scenes stuff for KCC2.  The bulk of it goes off to the layout artist on September 1, which means I need to have it, say...finished...by September 1.  Wait...I did tell you guys I was doing a sequel, right?  Cause I totally am.  And it's totally almost done. Now you'd think, that since I've known about this deadline for months, I'd have everything well finished by now and would be lounging about, sipping iced beverages on the patio, having pedicures and massages, and [...]

Happy News

I'm going to share a very happy sentence with you.  Ready?  'My local brewery is starting a knitting night.'  See?  Isn't that an awesome sentence?  You can say it a few more times to savor it properly if you'd like.  I'll wait.  The brewery in question is The Bottle House.  They're recently opened and just down the street from me.  The beer is delicious, and they have different food trucks in the parking lot every night (or you can bring your own food in if you're feeling like having a picnic).  It's looking like the first knitting night will be [...]

Stacks

Aiming for once a month on these, at least until they stop being amusing.  Part of the stacks series, and as always click for the bigger version. Books show are What is Cultural History, A History of Our Time (mine is an older version, the link is to the most recent one), and In Small Things Forgotten. And, if you're in the mood for a podcast, you can head over to The Yarn Thing Podcast and listen to Marly and I chat.  I've got a wee package of goodies to send off to whoever wins the drawing we talk about, [...]

Rabble Rousers Yarn Giveaway, Last Chance

Giving all this yarn away has been so much fun.  Well, there may possibly have been the occasional teeny tiny twinge when I mail out the oh-so-pretty goodies, but that's only to be expected.  The fun parts far outweigh any such ignoble feelings.  I must see if I can do this again some time! But now, just to end things on a bang, the good folks at Malabrigo were kind enough to send me 3 skeins of Arroyo to give away today.  This is the yarn I used for the Ruction cowl and mitts in Rabble Rousers.  It was, as [...]

Sidetracked

The sock, it is not yet finished.  It was a productive weekend in lot of other ways though (if by productive you'll take 'relaxing' and 'enjoyable'), so I'll pretend I don't mind the delay.  This is, of course, a filthy lie and the delay is actually driving me bonkers.  But until we get that time machine sorted out, it will have to do. But, I do have the ability to start Monday out on a good note for at least two people, Brenda (goodstuff on rav) and Anna have won the Handmaiden from last week.  And, as a little goody [...]
