Tiny Nonsense

Never content

This is an absolutely blatant reminder that the mitts to match the Constellate hat are due out very soon (the plan is Tuesday, assuming the world doesn't do anything dastardly to me or mine between now and then). The hat's out now, but we all know I am never content with just a hat when I could have mitts to match! The yarn is one of Seven Sisters Arts' gradient color wheels and is, clearly, absolutely magical. Karen dyed up some extra of the teal/gold color here, so you might be able to snag one if you're so inclined!

Unabated

The fascination will, surely, at some point break. All previous fascinations have. This one will too. But for now? For now it continues unabated. The yarn is by Little Skein Anne (two different weights of her silk and linen magic). And I suspect there will end up being a pattern of some sort, at some point (though likely not till January, perhaps we can use them as part of a 'be nicer to yourself' resolution, which is about the only sort of new year's resolution I'm interested in at this point).

Social conditioning

The gentleman who pulled over to ask what I was taking pictures of was VERY confused when I held this up on my palm, smiled real big, and exclaimed 'TENTACLES!' with a maniacal gleam in my eye. This level of frankness and unvarnished enthusiasm is part of my ongoing project to: a) answer exactly the question that was asked b) do the stuff I like doing as long as it's not hurting anyone else c) not apologize for things that don't need to be apologized for d) not over explain things to strangers Now I'll be honest, this is often [...]

Small smugnesses

I am, much to my surprise, currently...sewing something. And I find myself with a question for those of you who sew more than me. How do you decide how which bits of leftover fabric to keep and which ones to throw away? Not what size do you keep, because I suspect that's actually pretty variable (I know it is for me and yarn). But like what factors do you take into consideration when you're deciding? And do you trim your fabric down so what's left is closer to being a regular shape? Or do you just leave all those [...]

Leafy

So the thing about brioche leaves is that they can be made in an awful lot of shapes. I mean the whole structure of the stitch just sort of lends itself to leafy shapes. Which means we may find ourselves with rather a lot of different options. Please reassure me that no one will find this distressing...

Not at all convincing

So you, who are doubtless a paragon of good taste, probably like the cork versions better. I, however, find myself increasingly susceptible to the charms of the absurdly sparkly. I'd pretend to be sorry, but I wouldn't be at all convincing about it. And I suspect at least a few of you are with me on team sparkle. What do you say, does one or the other grab you more?

Versions

Right, so I told you yesterday there were three versions of this. For I am not known for my restraint. You've got the original, which is sort of secretly my favorite because it has big 'shiny new folder at the start of the school year' vibes and I am just super susceptible to new school supply magic. Then there's one with a super deep pocket to keep stuff like stitch markers in. And then there's a great big one for things like DPNs or interchangeable tips or hooks or whatever else your clever little soul desires. And then of course [...]

Binding

Can I promise that, if you make a stack of these, you will always know where your scissors (and needles, and stitch markers, and cable needles, and tape measure) are? I mean no, I can't in good conscience do that. I try not to lie to you. But I do think it will improve your odds! And at least if they're in one of these, then if your tools do go missing, you'll know they're off having an adventure together and no one will be lonely. I kind of love these. Like more than I usually love the absurd things [...]
