Not-so Friendly Reminder
For the avoidance of doubt—if you voted for him, you're not welcome here. I do not want you as a follower. Or a customer. Or a friend. I think you are a bad person. You voted for someone who will gleefully make the lives of women & people of color & queer people & disabled people worse. You voted for someone who will make your groceries & your clothes & your cars & your housing more expensive. You voted for someone who will make the air you breathe & the water you drink & the food you eat less safe. [...]
Should we do kits?
Should we do kits for this pattern? Because I get the impression that there are folks out there who want to make these, but do not want to go out and find all the pieces. And I get that! But also, I kinda already found them. So if we were to do this, it would look something like this: three clear ornaments three big styrofoam balls three small styrofoam balls a handful of the wee doodads to turn the balls into hanging ornaments a couple colors of the lovely Seven Sisters Arts yarn that I used to embroider with, plenty [...]
Throw Something
So most of them have plain glass ornaments in them. And that's lovely and dainty and delicate. But some days I am not interested in delicate. I am interested in hurling something. Hard. Which is why I am now the proud owner of quite a lot of styrofoam balls. For, if you fill these with a styrofoam ball instead of a bit of dainty glass, you can toss them like a snowball, should the urge come upon you. You know...in case that's something you're needing these days.
More Distraction
Testing call up over on patreon (it's a public post, you absolutely do not have to be a paid member to test). I suspect I shall be making an entire snowday's worth of these over the weekend. Because they are soothing, and my brain needs that right now. I hope you're doing something soothing too, because this week is hard. And I was really really really hoping it would be celebratory. But we have done hard things before, and we will do more hard things in the future, and with any luck at all we will find tiny things to [...]
Soothing distraction
Look, I am absolutely 100% aware that I am using these as a soothing distraction while my brain comes to terms with the fact that we've just cheerfully elected a convicted felon instead of a competent woman, and that I am watching my country turn ever more fascist. I am aware. Very very aware. And I'm still going to do it. Because sometimes a soothing distraction is the right thing in the moment. So I'm going to go sit down and write this pattern so that some of you can perhaps soothe and distract yourselves as well. Because you can't [...]
It worked
Have I felt like knitting, At All, for the last two months? Nope. Did this freak me out? Eh, yes and no. I know it tends to happen this time of year. And I know it's always been temporary. At least so far. But also yes at least a little, yeah. Did I wake up yesterday, leave my house well before sunrise, obtain a whole box of plain ornaments, and sit down with the scrap bin 'to see if this idea would work out the way I think it would?' Also yes. And did it work? Yup. So do I [...]
Evidence
The chop was a success, and I decided the cuffs needed to get a trim to match. Because to do otherwise would bug me. I don't make the rules, I just live here. And when I went to trim them, what did I find but evidence of a previous bit of intervention on this sweater. Turns out at some point in the past (do I recall when? no. can I find mention of it on the blog with a cursory search? also no.) I had mended a tiny little snag on the arm of this sweater. It looks like I [...]
Chop
This sweater has languished in the back of my closet for years because I no longer like how it fits. For you see, I used to be convinced sweaters were morally obligated to come down well past my hips, lest the world be distressed by the presence of my ass. I also felt like any sweater that went in under my boobs was undoubtedly indicative of a scandalously icentious nature. I no longer feel this way. Turns out I feel both happier and cuter in sweaters that actually fit. And no one has yet fainted dead away from the shock. [...]
Monthly Reminder
What's your plan to vote? I picked up my ballot from the town office earlier this month and dropped it off a few days later. (Did you know once you vote, most of the text messages and mailers stop? Think of it as a bonus treat for voting early!) Have you asked your friends and family if they need help making a plan to vote or researching the stuff on their ballot? Have you asked if they need a ride? (I am being an absolute pest...sorry not sorry.) And hey, do you need help figuring out how to vote? If [...]
