Fucking Festive

TL:DR for anyone else with a short attention span, all eight of these patterns + the two star books are over on this post for any Rampant Nonsense folks, they'll be there through the end of January. Did I wake up Friday, decide fuck it, I have enough stuff to fill a tree, let's be fucking festive, drive to a wee piece of land I might have bought earlier this year, cut down a little tree (yes, yes with garden shears), shove it in the front seat of my car, and drive it home? Yup. Did I spend Saturday and Sunday [...]

Deck

I am doing a tree. With things I've made. And I'm going to do up a big bundle with all the patterns for whatever ends up on the tree... Details to come (quick and dirty summary here, the more thorough version will have to wait till tomorrow). But oh...if you've ever wanted to get a whole bunch of our little friends all in one place...this is going to be a heck of a way to do it!

All in one place

Ok, folks are smitten, let's run down the details. First, the pattern is Drifts and it's in the usual spots (ravelry, payhip). And yes, it walks you through four different versions of the embroidery so you can make lots of different styles! The knitting on these is super chill. I did (most of) mine in various whites, and it's pretty much all just stockinette in the round. I used everything from sock weight (on the smallest ones) up through worsted weight (on the biggest ones), because knitting is stretchy and inanimate objects do not complain about how things fit. [...]

Bits…with caveats

Ok, people want the bits. And I get that, I do! But the truth is they are a) hard to find, b) expensive even if you do find them, and c) irritating to use. As in, the existing commercial tools to make these...well...kinda suck. And if you like to make the fancier versions of the stars, you're probably going to be frustrated with them. So I will tell you what I can, but with the caveats that they are only sometimes available, they're gonna seem awfully expensive, and you're going to say rude things when you use them. And the [...]

Too long

I...I don't think I've made these recently. In fact, the last evidence I can find me making them is from back at the end of 2020. Which really, far too long. Because these are another of the bits of radial symmetry and opportunity to bring tidiness to chaos that I use to hold my brain together when the sun sets at four in the fucking afternoon.   As every normal person does.   Which is not at all weird. Or unreasonable. Or the sign of some dread malfunction of some sort of internal wiring.   Nope. Perfectly Normal Coping Mechanism [...]

Innards

Innards! Let's run down what's inside these, and what you need to make them...First things first, the pattern is called Drifts and it's on both ravelry and payhip. Next up, these are a combination of knitting and embroidery. You knit the round bit, then embroider all over it in lovely, snowflake-ish patterns, then shove something in there to make it all nice and round. For the knitting, I used somewhere around 50-75 yards of yarn in various weights (sock(ish) for the smaller balls, around 2.5 inches in diameter, getting thicker and thicker until I got to worsted for the [...]

Drifts

Pssst...Drifts is out in all the usual places (ravelry and payhip)! If you sort of haaaaaaaaappened to use the code FLURRIES, that would be clever of you (though if you get email from me, do check your inbox first, because that's always where the even shinier codes end up). You have been flatteringly eager for these, and I confess I am excited to see what you do with them. And if you want to use the same gorgeous yarn to embroider yours, Seven Sisters Arts has lovely little mini bundles to let you do just that! Now really, the [...]

Monthly Reminder

Monthly reminder that abortions are good (in the way that all healthcare is good...doesn't mean they're fun, doesn't mean anyone wants to need them, but by god it's good to have them available when they're needed), that I and any space I have any control over is absolutely 100% pro abortion, and that anyone who has a problem with that is kindly invited to see themselves out. Quietly. The bad guys won this last round of elections, and that's going to make abortions harder to get. But that doesn't mean you give up, and that doesn't mean there's nothing you [...]

They’re Back!

It's that time again! Lots (and lots and lots) of the retired patterns are back for the next few days. Let's run down the details: You can find the retired patterns on both ravelry and payhip. You can tell which ones are retired because they'll have a big paragraph up at the top starting with "This pattern is retired and not usually available," and they'll be listed for $7.50 instead of the usual $10.00. They'll officially be up through Sunday, December 1. Unofficially, I'll start taking them down some time Monday, but I can't tell you when they'll all be down, because [...]
