Unspooled
For anyone who's been waiting for this one, Unspooled is now up in all the usual places! This one was exclusive to patrons for a while when it first came out (and patrons at any level can still totally download it for free as part of their membership), but for anyone who prefers to get it elsewhere, now you can! And yeah, yeah I do sort of want to see a whole garland of these (maybe interspersed with real spools because we are mortal creatures and no one has that much time on their hands) wrapped around someone's christmas tree [...]
Wanna see how they work?
Ok, so there's this whole thing where, when I read about a new craft, sometimes it feels just overwhelmingly complicated. But then I see someone do it, and go 'huh, ok yeah, I could probably do that.' If that's how you're feeling about the paper stars, you can watch me put a couple together over on instagram. There's one right here. And another one right here. I promise they're easier than they look! Should you have the sudden urge to make some of your own, you can find more information about them (including links to the paper and other supplies [...]
Bedeck
So, I know a fair number of you are decorating trees or wrapping presents or sending cards right about now. And I maintain that teeny tiny knitted hats come in handy in all those circumstances. So Bedeck is back!If you happened to be on the mailing list before about 7 this morning (eastern time, because time zones are a thing, no matter how much I curse them), wander over and check your email. You'll find a little something waiting for you there! If you happen to be on patreon (at any level), you should also go check your email (or, [...]
Smug
Aha! Found them! These are the ornament sized versions of the hats I showed you over the last few days. Am I feeling disgustingly smug about being able to lay hands on something the size of an egg that I haven't touched in two years? Oh yes very much so! Am I also smug about those tassels? Because tassels really are the perfect way to hang ornaments on a tree or tuck them under the ribbon on a present? And because these are just particularly perfect tassels? Yup, yup that too. What can I say. I'm prone to smugness. [...]
Something nifty
For anyone wondering, these are people-sized versions of the tiny ornament hats in the Bedeck pattern from a few years ago. Well, baby-sized. I had a couple folks in my life who were in need of baby hats, and those were the perfect thing to use for them! I might possibly be doing something nifty with the pattern shortly. I have one thing in mind for mailing list folks and a little something extra for patreon folks, so do keep an eye on your inbox in the next little while if you're on either of those!
Final round
Final round of the gratuitous encouragement to block your knits! Ok, full disclosure, this one involved a slightly more complicated procedure than the first two. The white dots on this have a tendency to sort of sink down into the orange fabric, and I didn't want them to do that, so I threaded some scrap yarn onto a blunt needle and ran it under the dots before I got the hat wet. Then it went in the sink, got squeezed out in a towel, and set on a bowl to dry. Once it was dry, I pulled the scrap yarn [...]
Drunk on power
So I have this problem. I truly cannot decide if I like these best in colorful paper or in white paper. What do you think? I'm pretty sure what I actually want is the spiffy special paper in other colors (like can you imagine them in lovely soft blues and purples and teals, how pretty would that be). But I've only ever found it in the same ten or eleven colors, and they're not quite my colors (yes, yes I am unspeakably picky about color, it's a failing, I realize that). I actually reached out to a couple of [...]
More Encouragement
Blocking encouragement, round two! Once again, I know I can't make you block, but I can totally show you before and after pictures of my own stuff and sort of hope you decide it's worth it! Just like last time, I tossed this in the sink, let it get absolutely soaked (either leave it a long time or squeeze it underwater a few times to help the water get all the way to the middle of the yarn), rolled it up in a towel to get the extra water out, and let it dry. But this time, instead of letting [...]
Order muppet
Ooooh, oh I think I figured out (part of) what I love so much about these. They hit exactly the same neat/tidy/orderly/symmetrical button in my brain that a really good hat crown does (yes, yes in my heart of hearts I am an order muppet, you probably already knew this though). I mean, I'm kinda wondering if a couple of them couldn't be hat crowns (with just a little bit of artistic license since yarn and paper don't behave quite the same way)? That orange one especially wouldn't be too hard to adapt. I might need one or two of [...]
