Scattered

Hi all, you'll have to pardon me if things are a bit scattered for a day or two.  We're back from our trip.  We went up to Rhinebeck, and then on to Maine for a bit of a vacation.  We had planned to wind our way back slowly and arrive home Wednesday evening, but there's a bit of a storm at the moment.  We made the executive decision that all the places we'd be seeing on our way home were likely to be a bit damp and windy, so we opted to dash home instead.  After two very long, very [...]

Packed

I've taken a middle of the road approach.  I've packed the socks in progress.  I've also packed blockers to finish them, so hopefully I'll get pictures of them (and of the ones I finished back in August) while we're away.  And of course I have a wee knitting tool kit (my 4 most used sizes of DPNs, ruler, darning needle, scissors, hook), some graph paper, a pencil, a few pattern ideas that have been running rampant on sticky notes, and two balls of wound yarn. That should keep me busy for a while at least. Oh, and lest you worry, [...]

Packing

I'm getting stuff sorted for Rhinebeck, and I'm facing the perpetual problem of all knitters.  Packing clothes is easy...packing knitting is hard. This is especially true at the moment as I have precisely one pair of socks on the needles.  Not a single other thing.  And it's the second of the pair too, and just past the gusset decreases.  That means it might (possibly) be enough knitting to get me through the drive, especially if I nap for part of it (which is always likely, I have an off switch in my butt).  That doesn't leave me anything for the [...]

Advance Planning

Next month is going to be busy.  It's the good sort of busy.  Actually it's two good sorts of busy, first the super productive slightly frantic sort, then the relaxed chill sort.  It should all be fun, but it does require a bit of advance planning. So, I'm polling the collective here.  First, any must know tips for Rhinebeck?  I'm going (yay), and it's my first one, and I want to be sure to do it right.  Second, any marvelous yarn shops in Maine I should know about?  Maine's big, and we'll be staying on the coast, so nothing too [...]

Ran Away, Part 4

Alrighty, this is getting ridiculous.  We were gone just over 48 hours, you'd think I could tell you all about this in less than half a dozen posts. When we last spoke, we were pulling away from the Schaefer yarn outlet.  After such an experience, we needed something restorative.  We headed over to Finger Lakes Distilling.  We've been going there since they opened and their products have just gotten better.  We supplemented the basement supplies and set out for lunch. Somehow, no one quite knows how, Finger Lakes Fibers just happened to be between where we parked and the restaurant.  [...]

Ran Away, Part 3

When last I left you, The Boy had spotted the Schaefer outlet sign, informed me of this discovery, and graciously redirected the car.  We pulled up and saw the yarn waving at us through the open doorway.  Someone was out front working in the garden.  I asked if we could go in, and stepped inside. Should you ever be in this part of the world, I highly recommend you find a way to do the same. The room is tiny, but it's packed floor to ceiling with lovely yarn.  One of my favorite things about Schaefer is the wide array [...]

Ran Away, Part 2

You know those days where everything just seems to line up and work?  Lots of stuff gets done without any feeling of being rushed or frantic?  Yeah, somehow we managed to have a whole weekend like that.  I'll do the abbreviated version here.  (Why? Because it's my website and I totally use it for shameless reminders of where I went when and oh what was that cool restaurant and when did we visit those folks and a whole list of other things.  That's why.  I totally encourage you to go find a more interesting corner of the internet today if [...]

Ran Away

Friday afternoon we set kittens up to be self sufficient for a day or two, tossed a change of clothes in a bag, flung some things in the car, and ran away.  Our favorite band, Jukebox The Ghost, was playing in Ithaca.  We were unable to resist.  If you find them in a town near you, you shouldn't resist either. There's lots of yarny stuff to report too, but it will have to wait till later in the week.  But don't worry, it's coming.  I just have to see if I can get my camera to behave long enough to [...]

Home

We're back home and, as predicted, the knitting aspirations were wildly overly optimistic.  I didn't knit one single stitch.  The second sock remains a neatly wound ball of yarn.  I would feel bad about this if only I could muster the energy to care.  At the moment, that's beyond me.  But, this little knitting break is making me sort of twitchy, so I should be back to the needles soon.  In the meantime, I'll be busy getting everything ready for the Rabble Rousers launch.  That starts next Tuesday (and I have all sorts of grand plans), so look for lots [...]
