As discussed the last time this hat gripped me in its obsession, these hats are mindbogglingly simple. The vast majority of the time, you're just knitting. Just plain old knitting...nothing fancy at all. Every now and then, you do a little magic trick for one quick row, then slip back to the lovely soothing plain knitting. It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time
Well bummer. Remember when I said the hat obsession had returned? And I showed you the two yarns I wanted to use? Yes. Well. I seem to have fallen under the sway of Malabrigo's lovely but occasionally sporadic colors. Do you remember earlier this year when I fell prey to a Wee Hat obsession. Those hats went off to their intended victims long ago. I managed to arrange a photo shoot before they did, but there was an unfortunate pink lemonade incident that meant the photos weren't all they could be (the camera, after a thorough cleaning, does seem to have recovered). Just a Little Slouch
Hat's done! Started by worrying I didn't have enough handspun...then moved onto worrying I didn't have enough of the main yarn (Vally Yarns Sheffield). Turns out I had enough of both, and so now I've cast on a pair of tiny mitts to go with it. And now, of course, I'm worried I don't have enough again. So, I'm thinking it really is reversible. More Like It
I've recovered from my lying swatch incident (never a pretty sight) and am now no longer despondent. The yarn is back on the needles, and I have a plan. This will be one of those slouchy hats...aka, one of those hats that looks like crap while it's in progress. I've got great faith though. I think it will be suitably nifty, and it's totally doing its job and showing off the (little tiny bit of) handspun I had available. The real question is do I like the inside or the outside better? I Protest
When you don't swatch, or when you do a crappy swatch, or when your swatch proves to be a bald-faced liar (that's what happened here), then you get to rip out the promising start of a hat (while swearing), detangle all that yarn (still swearing), pick up all the stitches that survived the purge (more swearing), and knit it all over. Wee Hat the Third
I think the phase has passed. I've got three hats. The family in question has three sprockets. I think the numbers line up pretty well. But before they go off to live with their new owners (after all, it is still awfully warm here), I wanted to show them to you. Wee Hat the Second
Again, not actually all that wee. Same idea as before, glorified stripes, never more than one color on a row (because I'm lazy and not a very good knitter, that's why). This one was super speedy. Cast on when I finished the first one, cast of yesterday. Still smitten. One more to go at least. Once again, the texture is best seen by swinging around to the side a bit. The little nubbly poofs amuse me to no end. They also tempt Barry into unspeakable misbehavior, so these have to go on a nice high shelf.
